Yuppers!! Batman #685 is my pick of the week!! Not too surprised are you? Yeah, my opinion is somewhat bias, probably because Batman is my favorite comic book character, and not just Bruce Wayne himself, all the characters and settings that make up Gotham City and it's imaginary surroundings. Gordon, Catwoman, Robin, Penguin, Nightwing, Joker, Riddler, Clayface, Mad Hatter, etc. I love them all. I grew up following the stories that featured these primary characters all my still somewhat young life, whether it was in the comics, novels, movies, cartoons, cartoon movies, video games, TV shows (yes, I actually watched Birds of Prey), board games, tooth brushes lunch boxes, magazines, screensavers, desktop backgrounds, whatever etcetera. If it was Batman, I liked it and I had it at one point. I even had a Batman shaped... (cough cough!! What was I saying?!)
Anyway, we are supposed to be talking about Batman #685 here, right. Oh yes, the second part of Catwoman gets revenge on Hush story. Yeah, it was alright. I really wish that Catwoman beat the shit out of Tommy Elliot just a bit more. The man cut her damn heart out for God's sake!! She must've suffered pretty hard to recover from that, let me tell you. My Grandmom had to get heart surgery once and it was no picnic.
But like always, Catwoman is on a mission and Tommy Elliot is just a pawn in her little game right now. Setting those endangered species free was more important to her then beating the hell out of Hush so much so he thought he got lucky for a minute. Catwoman sent him off with a couple of tourguides and informed him that she'll have to deal with him after she is done going about her business with the pouchers, and there he went. It just so happens that he is in for a little bit of a surprise when the identities of the two tourguides has been revealed. Let's just say Hush is going to be locked up at the top of a tower for quite a while, and he doesn't even have a window to jump out of either. Oh well, it was just about time for Paul Dini to put old Hush back in the toybox for a while and start thinking of some good Bat-ideas for what is to happen in these great series of books after the much anticipated Battle For the Cowl comes to a close, I'm sure he'll think of something though.
I'm really proud of how Paul Dini made a name for himself doing one and they're done stories in Detective for a while. Now it looks as if his next plan is to write story arcs that are just a tad bit longer now. Well that's how it was with Heart of Hush. Heart of Hush was a five part story, and these last couple of installments with Catwoman and Hush certainly tie into that story also. Way to go, Dini. Keep up the good work. Now if that Grant Morrison guy could learn something from you, everybody would be pulling the Bat-books so hard that... Well, you get the idea!!
And I'm really starting to enjoy the art that is done by Dustin Nguyen also. His pencils always look very sharp, lol. I hope Nguyen and Dini stick together as a team for a real long time and keep dishing out some really great Batman and Detective arcs.
Oh God, wouldn't it be so awesome if they made Batman AND Detective both come out biweekly??!! A new Batman every Wednesday of the year!! A boy can dream, can't he? After all, I had a friend who dreamed of being able to buy a copy of Amazing Spiderman every week, and now it's come pretty darn close to that I might add.
