‘Everything you know is a lie!’ You hear it a lot, but oh man, I can’t recall a time when it’s been done so ridiculously and outrageously… or better, really. After being a tad disppointed by the lack of major events in the first issue… well, this one had them in spades.

This felt on par with Brubaker’s Cap, but if anything the ideas were MORE audacious than bringing back Bucky or killing Cap were. I’m pretty much convinced it’ll all be overturned by stories end but my goodness there is some insane stuff Morrison throws out in this issue.

To boot… it’s all very well written, intense and suspenseful. The art isn’t quite on par with the story but it holds up it’s end of the bargain fine.

This felt like comic with the biggest impact since Secret Invasion hit, and I’m absolutely along for the rest of the ride.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. I am enjoying this series — especially the art — but your (interesting) review has me wondering if I’m missing something.  What’s the revolutionary aspect of what’s happening here?  The maybe-reveals about Bruce’s parents?  If those actually turn out to amount to something, I guess it really is a big deal.  But right now I suspect most of this is a huge mind-$@#! and Jet is in on it somehow.

    Too cynical?

  2. I might have been going overboard, but I feel like the teases as far as changing lots of things in Batman’s origin (involving his parents, Alfred and even his own psyche) were pretty big mindfucks, for me. I was just excited by the whole thing, and the possibilites presented. The fact that it’s Morrison and they seem to be letting him have pretty free reign with a lot of things seems to suggest, to me, that some of the crazier ideas might even stick.

Either way, it seems like a bigger deal than Final Crisis. But then, I was rather underwhelmed by the first issue of that. But I felt the same way for BRIP issue one, so I think there is hope for FC, anyway.

  3. Great review! 🙂
