blah blah blah…overhyped…blah blah blah….morrison is better…blah blah blah…I was a fan of batman before it was mainstream…blah blah blah. Seriously I have tried to read the 1% negative reviews because I really wanted to go in with an open mind and try to understand what someone could possibly not like about this. Maybe i’m being a douche and stereotyping but it really feels like from the negative reviews I’ve read that they hate it because everyone else loves it, similar to when I run into a hipster who hates a popular band because they “sold-out and made it big” and then they proceed to enlighten me with why I should only drink herbal tea with every meal and wear shirts made of flax seed or other edible materials…../facepalm.

In all seriousness this is turning into the best batman story I’ve ever read and if nails the ending, it will go down in history (at least in my opinion) as one of the greatest batman stories ever told. I have gift purchased just the first issue on comiXology for 4 different friends and now everyone of them are completely hooked on this series and can’t stop talking about it. Hipsters be damned this books melts my face!

P.S. comments are enabled because…..COME AT ME BRO! :p

  1. I’ll comment on your review. Flapjaxx made a good point: yes this story has similarities with Batman R.I.P. by Morrison. But that’s how it works. Hollywood is recycling the same 21 (or something) stories all over since movies started, same goes with books.

It’s called “influences”, so what if Snyder got inspired upon Batman R.I.P. which is one of my favorite Batman stories ever, Snyder’s touch is unique, his storytelling is great, punchy and spot-on awesome! And Capullo’s art is icing on the cake (extra chocolate, you know you like it)!

I’m a writer myself and there’s just so many ways to tell a story and it will always be compared to something that came before. Always. It’s really how you tell it that makes all the difference!

    So, all, carry on!

  2. I won’t be very negative because I am really enjoying Snyders story but I think everyone who has been following Morrison’s run for a few years was just ready for the Batman Inc. Change of pace and tone he was establishing. Snyder’s story halted that direction for them. That wouldn’t be so jarring except for all the similarities in story and tone.

    • Batman Inc. still exists and is continuing in may, what’s the problem? I don’t read ALL of the Batman books out there, just the ones I’m interested in and the ones I really like and I’m a Batman fan, not a Batman whore! 😉

I say if a book is not your cup of tea, don’t bash it and whine about it, just stop buying it and spend 3$ on something you’ll love instead. People are silly sometimes!

  3. They are horror tropes, not invention’s of Grant Morrison. I mean, really? Grant Morrison invented secrete societies? Creepy mask wearing people? A legend that’s not a legend but real? The hero being beaten up and secluded from help?

R.I.P. was the first time people ever saw that type of thing before?

    • No it wasn’t the first time people saw that. It’s the timing and how many similarities there are that makes it so noticeable.

  4. I completely and totally agree with Flapjaxx and think it’s incredibly disappointing he did not allow comments. I think the most major issue is Morrison’s run on Batman ended to basically tell a incredibly similar story by Snyder. I’m enjoying it but I also wish it weren’t so long so we could move on and see Snyder tell something more original.

  5. Ok so I’ve been doing a lot of research on Batman R.I.P. on wikipedia and I agree from what I’ve read it seems like it has several similarities. However as one of the MANY people that never read Batman R.I.P (or really not many batman books at all before the new 52) this story feels fresh and amazing to me. So I guess I can see people’s point that did read Batman R.I.P. but I really feel that every great story is copying another story just like every great song is ripping off some other great song that came before it (in some way). Just judging this by itself without considering timing or similarities to another story, I think most people will admit this is a PHENOMENAL batman story!

  6. I’m not sure you actually reviewed the book as much as the reviews ..
