The thing that I love about this series is that Bryan Q. Miller has given it such a distinct voice.  It’s completely different from all of the other Bat-family books.  While Red Robin displays Tim’s game of chess with the world and Batman & Robin is mired is the fantastic delights of Morrison, Batgirl remains a lighthearted superhero tale with a dynamic wit and suprisingly likable cast of characters.  This issue features Batgirl battling wits with Clayface, and while the events of the issue play out in usual paces, it’s the uniqueness of Stephanie’s internal monologue mixed with her interactions between characters that makes the whole thing fresh.  If this were Bruce or Dick or Tim, it would be completely different, but here the fight plays out with clever banter and hilarious asides.  I liken Stephanie’s character to an Indiana Jones style hero:  she adapts to any situation regardless of the obstacles and does it with an air of nonchalance that makes her instantly charming.  Pere Perez’s art in this issue is really nice, and plays well with the story.  I didn’t really find any issue with the storytelling in this issue.  This issue is a fine example of what this entire series has been like, and I recommend anyone who has been thinking of checking the series out to pick this one up as it is new reader friendly.  I would also recommend this series to anyone who’s looking for a book to fill the Power Girl void left when Palmiotti, Gray, and Conner left that series.
