I am quite behind on BPRD; right now enjoying volume 2 of their excellent and economical omnibuses. Because of the work of the incredible James Harren, I elected to throw caution to the wind and jump ahead, because the Hellboy-verse titles make it so easy. This was a nice story that started out like many BPRD tales do, with some garden-variety field agents looking at mysterious occult paraphernalia. One artifact they find serves as a vehicle to show us a glimpse of the past, and this is where the real fun takes place. Harren’s springing, textured and tactile images really deliver as we are treated to some fantasy-flavored goblin-smashing. What could be just another fun paranormal tale is elevated by the masterful hand of a powerful artist. This book is a great case for the importance of art in this writer-dominated comics climate. Also, let me quickly add one more shekel of praise atop Dave Stewart’s mountain of acclaim. Give this great book a look!

Story: 4 - Very Good
