A tip for the art team, if an important scene in a comic hinges on Clor realizing he may be a clone by seeing that the Scarlet Spiders have the same face as each other, maybe you should, you know, MAKE THEIR FACES LOOK THE SAME!* Jeezus! Needless to say, I was not a fan of the art in this issue. I'm sorry, but I hate Ramos' cartoony style. His figures are ugly and needlessly elongated. And the inker did a piss poor job with whatever weird technique he was testing out. I give it an F+. As for the story, it feels like this title is spinning its wheels. Clor again? MVP again? I thought the MVP plot thread was already resolved after he went beserk a while back. I guess not.
The problem with this book is that, with "Dark Reign" in full swing and the Initiative disbanded, it looks like Gage is being forced to do some house cleaning. So, he's just tying up a bunch of old threads. But aside from a nice moment dealing with Tigra's pregnancy, and the return of Hardball, there was nothing in this issue that made me want to pick up the next issue. And that's when I need to give some thought to dropping this book.
*I looked at the panel again, and on further review, realized that the two faces might look similar enough to get the job done. But I've read this book from the beginning, so I know the Scarlet Spiders are MVP clones. I'm curious to see if anyone who is newer to the book, or even a long time reader, was confused by the art. Feel free to comment if only to call me a overreacting schmuck.
Story: 2 - Average
Art: 1 - Poor
Art: 1 - Poor

I agree with your statements BW though I wouldn’t rate it as low except the art. In fact I’ll rate it after this comment. The art is horrible and I haven’t been a Ramos fan either which is odd because I like anime and manga style art. I hate how he draws huge freakin feet. The story wasn’t bad considering what Gage had to work with. Remember this is an Intiative book and the Initative era is done and now we’re in Dark Reign. Were Dark Reign has opened up a lot of story to be told in other books, I think it has messed this book up some. I hope this book will get back on top again.
I totally agree on the art, it’s just a mess, like when Yu was on New Avengers post Civil War.
I don’t care about these characters in the first place, I seriously doubt Gage likes them either. I loved his writing on Stormwatch PhD, and those were characters that were new to me at the time. So I think he hates writing this as much as I hated putting 12 minutes into reading the bottom of my stack. It was there for a reason. I’m dropping this one because it’s a waste of time and money.
I found myself being distracted by how the art is scrawled out, I was insulted by that Slapstick character whom I’d never heard of and hope I never do again. The Scarlet Spider costume was tired when Spider-Man was wearing it, I don’t see what they’re milking these characters or that costume for. Isn’t it StarkTech, shouldn’t it not work unless it’s sanctioned activity by Norman Osborn?
Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. I did like the Tigra moment, but it could have just as easily been in another book.
@DorianP – word. WTF post Civl War? Yu redeemed himself with Secret Invasion, I dropped New Avengers for a while because of his art, then had to go buy them all anyway because I wanted the full story leading into Secret Invasion. I lose some respect for an artist or writer who is okay with releasing sub-par stuff for a while because they’re holding back for later.
