I’ve always loved the writing of Brian Bendis when it comes to the happening of events and explanation of some ideas, but slowly I’m beginning to get irritated by his characterization of certain characters. It seems to me like there’s three Spider-man in the team. You could mix the dialogue of Spidey, Spider-woman, and Hawkeye, and you wouldn’t even know the difference. They all quip and joke like they’re in a comedy bar. Hell, even Wolverine does it too. That being said though, I’m a fan of alternate realities and timelines, and the inclusion of that aspect in the story still made it interesting for me to save some points. What deducted points though is the Art by John Romita Jr. Though some pages are ok, a lot seemed rushed. If he draws a lot like how he draws on that cover, then I’d really love this book. I loved his work on Kick-Ass, but art in this issue is ass kicked.

  1. Agree completely, with the positive and negative aspects mentioned.

"It seems to me like there’s three Spider-man in the team. You could mix the dialogue of Spidey, Spider-woman, and Hawkeye, and you wouldn’t even know the difference. They all quip and joke like they’re in a comedy bar. Hell, even Wolverine does it too."

That right there is my biggest problem.

I fee like at this point they should revise the re-cap on the title pages to something like: "The Avengers! A band of several superheroes banded together to quip, joke, and make an unending string of smart-ass comments during every serious situation!"

That said, like you, I still like the overall time-travel plot.

  2. Agree.  The only unique dialogue comes from Thor.   As you mention, the plot is very good.  That’s the only reason I haven’t dropped this book.
