When it’s well written, I like pro-wrestling.
That’s not a non sequitur, that’s the set up. What Johns did with Arthur in the first six issue is called “elevation.” That’s where a wrestler is taken from a low spot in the card and shown in a fashion that warrents him being put in a higher spot in the card. When it’s successful the wrestler has “gotten over.”
You follow elevation with a “push.” Which means you take your character and you start throwing bigger and bigger heavies at them, treating the heavies like big challenges so both come out looking good.
Issue fourteen is the set up for the next level of Arthur’s push, that’s why it felt like so little happened. The payoff comes down the line but when you’re reading book month-to-month you can lose sight of that. (Well, I lose sight of that sometimes.) I’m waiting to see how this plays out.
