After news of Mr. Lemire being nominated for the Eisner Award (well deserved), this issue seemed almost like it was made at the right time of the news. After a few pages, two things should be said:

1.) The drawing and writing of Maxine (Animal Woman/Girl), is very well done and is piquing interest with her rapidly increasing abilities as the Avatar.

2.) Over 100 villains of the DC Universe, I think I hate that grandmother the most. Every time I see her speech bubble I want the rot to devour her.

While the action was not epic, the intense feeling of doom is strongly presented in this issue. Though I wasn’t particularly fond of the artwork or cliffhanger (decent, but so obvious it’s transparent), Jeff Lemire has still kept interest in one of the best series in the DC New Universe.

The only thing that will make it better is what we already know is coming…Animal Man and Swamp Thing tag-teaming the Rot into oblivion!
