I find it somewhat difficult to assess the artwork in this book. Jordi Bernet is no stranger to the old west and drew several issues of Jonah Hex. Though I can’t be sure whether I would call the art uneven or if I’m just not adjusted to a more off-beat, indie sensibility. Even though he proves himself to be a master storyteller and his art is wonderfully minimalist, I just felt that some of the panels felt a bit off, especially some of the pictures of young Skinner. So I split the difference between these conflicting opinions and gave the book a respectable 3.

The story we get is one of a young Skinner Sweet as a US marshall before he became a vampire, and Skinner proves he was always a brutal maniac. It’s a fun issue and should please long-time readers, though there’s no reason why new readers can’t jump on at this point. Just remember, new-comers, that the regular artist is much better.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 3 - Good
