I...just don't get it.
1) Time seemed to go by really really fast in the macroverse, from our perspective. So why is time going by really really fast in our world from the prospective of the macroverse? I felt like I needed in advance degree in theoretical physics to get how things were progressing.
2) Wouldn't they already know this? They've been there before.
3) The whole bit about Johnny trying to learn Spider-Man's secret identity went on waaaay too long. And it was executed rather lamely, too. By the way, why would Sue care enough to make Peter's head invisible?
4) This would have taken place prior to New Avengers #51. Soooo...why didn't he warn them like he warned the FF? I'm guessing the Spidey Brain Trust and Bendis don't communicate about the character that they share. More's the pity.
5) The switch from Kitson to Eaglesham was very jarring and all too noticeable. Johnny goes from lanky to buff in one page. And I did not like the brief view of the Thing from Eaglesham. I would give the art a 4, but this transition killed a point.
6) Yeah, the ending. This should have been built up and anticipated. Instead, the way it was done, you could tell what it was going to be and it was anti-climactic when instead it should have been a huge deal. Along with that, Slott jettisons a good amount of character development in Peter's universe to have him pal along with the FF. That's not what's supposed to happen in a Spidey book. This would have worked better as a story in the Four's own book.
I hope, I truly, truly hope that this was done as some sort of editorial mandate to get Spider-Man's world to a certain point in a short amount of time. I know Slott is a better writer than this lets on, and I would not recommend this to anyone interested in seeing more of his work. It was super-compression, which is not the better alternative of massive decompression.
Having said that, I look forward to the world this creates. I'd rather have gotten there differently, travelled there rather than been teleported there and skipping the in-between.
Art: 3 - Good
Yeah it certainly seems odd that the same plot of ‘Spidey unmasking’ is happening in two different titles. Your probably right, the Brain Trust and Bendis didnt talk to each other about it. I flipped threw it in the store, it didnt look all that good or interesting. That last page reveal? Big yawn.
Sue explained why she cared about Peter’s privacy quite eloquently in the issue.
Sue is a Linux freak? Who knew…
Yeah she explained it, and maybe I don’t know Sue so well, but it just seemed…eh. I guess with her being on the non-registration side, it makes sense, but still.
