I thought I was nearing a Marvel Porn induced heart attack when I saw the Fantastic family decked out in their cool portal jumping suits with the number 4 imprinted on them along with Spidey with his own Spidey symbol suit all hanging out on the first few pages in the Macroverse? But it passed and I went on to enjoy Dan Slot’s serving of some Marvel universe coolness.

You got to give this one some time, you get some flashbacks and flash forwards and the main story is some rehashed Outer Limits/Simpson’s storytelling . Essentially you have the F4 plus Parker blast off to another dimension, debate first contact protocol when presented with witnessing what looks like warring alien tribes, leave home, and then are contacted by one of the warring tribes a few years later. Of course they head back to discover that civilization in this dimension has progressed a few centuries compared to their years, jumping from stone age to 17^th century in 3 Marvel years. O and it seems are heroes are revered as Gods and have statues erected in their likeness. Only Parker’s statue is older and gasp “unmasked” and turns out our heroes seemed to have intervened and forgotten all about how, when and why they intervened . Sounds wacky? A bit confusing? Yes it is , but very fun,

Slot’s writing is also fun. He writes Reed as he should be intelligent yet dry, Johnny Storm is clever and arrogant and Peter is a bit of both with some whine thrown in. The dialogue is really funny with some not so forced jokes about trekkies, The Watcher, and Frank Frazetta artwork. Slot does all this while added a cute but strange twist to the ongoing mayoral race storyline.

The art isn’t breathtaking but it does it’s job, the wackiness of the story drives it anyway.
