This issue is immediately notable due to the first appearance of Death to the main DCU. I have no familiarity with this character, so her appearance had no impression on me. What I did enjoy was seeing Lex Luthor deal with his own mortality and the possibility of the Afterlife. While this issue was entertaining, thought provoking and delved further into the mind of one of DC’s main villains, it was not a high-spirited comic book romp, like recent issues were. So, in that regard, this issue left me wanting more. Still good, still worth the read.

I actually found myself more engaged in the Jimmy Olsen co-feature. This issue sees Jimmy Olsen deal with an alien delegation, who are evaluating Metropolis as a potential site for an inter-galactic celebration. The head of the delegation is a drunk on oxygen tween from outerspace that finds Jimmy “hot.” Now this was comic-booky goodness. With the co-features coming to an end, I’ll be real curious to find out what DC’s plans are for the backup material because I am really enjoying Nick Spenser’s take on Jimmy Olsen, and I would read it in whatever format DC decides to publish it in.
