I'm one of those people who is not a fan of Superman.  I think he has too many powers, is pretty much invincible, and is the biggest Boy Scout on the planet.  However, with the right storyteller at the helm, Superman can be pretty damn awesome.

Take the current BRAINIAC run by the amazing Geoff Johns.  We're seeing a completely new (and supposedly the original) Brainiac challenging Superman, and possibly bringing chaos and destruction to Earth.

In the beginning of the story, Superman observes Brainiac's bottling process of the cities via wires and cables, and feels the urge to put a stop to this madness.  I felt a very Empire Strikes Back vibe of Brainiac guiding Superman throughout his ship to the main room, and it was certainly dark and chilling.  The whole story was entertaining from start to finish, and even had a dash of humor in it to keep you smiling.  I always knew Brainiac was evil, but in this current arc he's taking it up to eleven.
