iFanboy Mini #106 – It Came From the Storage Unit: Captain America #363 (1989)

Show Notes

Conor Kilpatrick has gone into his storage unit and randomly selected a stack of comics in an attempt to remember the stories just from studying the covers and attempting to jog his addled memory. Will he be successful? The smart money says no, but it will be fun watching him attempt to access parts of his comic book reading brain that have laid dormant for years, and in some cases, decades.

This week is Captain America #363 from November 1989!

How will Conor do up against a 19 year old comic book? He’ll probably do a better job than Captain America does disguising himself when he goes undercover.

  1. OK. The game I have when u run these episodes is to pause it right after the reveal, and read the comic myself before playing the rest. You know what? 363 and at least the next 5 issues was a pretty cool run on Cap! We get Namor in there, and Red Skull, and its a pretty fun ride.

    Thanks Conor!

  2. "Uh Oh, Crossbones stole a boat"

For some reason that really made me laugh.

  3. Not that we’re competing with each other, but I can’t beat that.

    Nice work Conor.

  4. Fun stuff!

  5. I cant believe that actually had a plot line where a woman was gonna be forced to be a prositute…Obviously Cap saves Diamondback in time but, I didnt think comics back then had such an adult story point like that.

Goes what the critics knows, comics are about the same now then they were 19 years ago.

  6. The most annoying thing I see these days are stories that have the basic point of "Comics aren’t for kids anymore!"

Comics haven’t been for kids for at least 20 years.

  7. Awesome! When I got into comics, this is the first comic book I bought. The couple year’s worth of issues around that time are some of the best Cap stories ever. Mark Gruenwald was firing on all cylinders and Kieron Dwyer’s art was incredible. Anyone who knows me can tell you how much I like Cap and those issues in particular. (BTW, you guys read my email about the impostor being the Grand Director!)

  8. It knew it was Grand Director, too!  High five!

  9. Was Steve Rogers traveling under the clever alias "Roger Stevens" in this issue?

If you ever need an alias, it should be Patrick Kilconnor.

  10. HAHA I love these storage unit mini’s!!!!

  11. ROFL i love these mini’s. Good Job conor

  12. My goodness! That’s blatant S&M!

  13. @ CAM– I had the same reaction to "aaaand we’re in Madripoor."

  14. I’ll also say that the "trenchcoat and fedora over full disguise" plot device still was being used by both Bullseye and Spider-Man as late as 2002-2003.

  15. Let Hooper take his turn…Nice shirt Conor.
