  1. Nice pick.  Remember MAD #500 is coming up in 8 months.  I hope you guys give props to it.

  2. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

What did I tell you about apologizing for your picks, Ron?

    Own it!

Thanks for taking the time to put out the show this week, guys.  Must have been hectic as hell.

  3. Hey guys. I’m listening to the podcast right now, and maybe I misinterpretted it, but the "Sam Wilson’s speach was great" comment caught my attention. You made it seem like Marvel never printed it. In case you didn’t catch it, it was in fact in Loeb’s "Fallen Son" mini. If I recall, it was Iron Man’s issue. Anyway, just thought I’d bring that to your attention so you can check it out, because Sam Wilson’s speach was great.

  4. Ron, Pol is right.  Now I want you to go sit in front of the mirror and do a ‘Stuart Smalley’.

  5. I hate comic con weeks….All rush and no play makes ifanboy podcast a dull day!

Good for what it’s worth, but I cant wait for the normal schedule for next week. But I find it funny that comic-con has burned you guys out….when only you did one mini for the event and just this small POTW podcast. Sounds like we got a lot of stuff for this whole week since you didnt do much for the site.

  6. Seriously dude, can you just not complain about something, just once?

We did 5 minis this week, like every week, a 40 minute show, with content every day.  We did 2 minis from the show that you saw, and many coming up.  We shot more material and worked harder than we ever have, and it’s all yours for free.  If you don’t like it fine, but I completely don’t have the stomach to hear complaints or accusations that we’re not working that hard.

Probably shouldn’t have said that, but that’s just a ridiculous accusation and I won’t have it.

  7. Here’s some show notes off the cuff.

2:53– Ron chooses Uncanny X-Men #500 as his Pick of Week… we think…

10:54– Rucka does unspeakable things to Daredevil #109 but that’s okay because it was awesome.

13:04– Cyclops has a jet pack… and that’s just silly.

13:23–  Liberty Comics gives the CBLDF benefit and gives you Hulk balls… wait, that came out wrong…

15:13– Mark Millar churns out military action superhero style once again with War Heroes #1.

17:54– New Avengers #43 (otherwise known as Secret Invasion Weekly #17 or so) probably isn’t very popular in the PETA offices this week.

21:50– Immortal Iron Fist #17 somehow manages to still be good without Brubaker and Fraction though Ron did love the art.

23:48– Ron and Conor amuse themselves with British pseudo-profanity while Josh talks of his love for Dan Dare #7

25:30– Conor enjoyed the art of the mysterious Juan Doe on Joker’s Asylum: Scarecrow but don’t ask him what the story was about quite yet.

26:17– James Robinson gives a Superman #678 gives us Kirby dots and random Zatanna references but Josh has faith all will make sense soon.

27:50– Conor would talk of Green Lantern Corps #26 and Two-Face: Year One #1 but something called a "con" prevented him from reading either yet.

28:45– The iFanboys give their reflections of the San Diego Comic-Con: Conor burned his head, Gordon scared the poo out of Ron, and Josh got the rickets.

  8. fine whatever, I’ll just go to ign since they had up to the minute info on the convention.

Sorry that one person out of hundreds you get gives one fucking negative comment once and a while.

Just read your positive remarks if it makes you happier, I’ll be realistic and give critisim when needed….sorry I’m the worst person you’ve ever had on the site…I fucking hate myself so we’re all in agreement on how much we hate me!

  9. Great show notes, Tork!  (Though I think you meant to say that Ron did NOT love the art on Iron Fist.)

And, hey, considering all the work you guys are doing at the con (just walking around cons tires me out) I was pleased to have the podcast up early, and enjoyed listening.  I’m with Josh on ‘Superman’ — I don’t know what’s going to happen but I’m intensely curious; it definitely feels like it’s builiding to something.

BTW, one of the people you interviewed has already spilled the beans on his blog, and I’m very psyched.  But I  won’t mention names in case it’s supposed to be a surprise.

  10. Yeah, I did… I am now ashamed…

  11. Sweet lord!  Someone needs a couple of shandies.

Keep in mind we get all this for free, people.

  12. Thanks for the notes Tork!

For the guy criticizing, its one thing to criticize what someone says or does, such as a review you disagree with, but its totally something else to criticize how hard somebody works without compensation. Do you visit non-profit organization events and yell at somebody working because they yawned?

I also agree with ohcaroline. By mid-day second day of a con, I’m ready to get out of there. I’d hate to imagine carrying equipment and recording interviews, etc. and feeling obligated to stay through the whole thing and get as much content as possible. Keep up the great work guys!

  13. I was just stating a point that, unlike other comic websites I go on, this site barely gave us much on the info I’ve been clamoring.

All I got was, 3 mini shows (one just a preview mind you), an article on Geoff Johns on a new Flash series….and that’s it! I’m not complaining how hard you guys work at this con. Hell you guys give it your all for a small con like the Emerald one….I was just stating that it’s weird that barely anything got out on this site; unlike another site like ign, which updated itself every hour. I know this isnt like ign and you got 20 staff members at the con….but I started at this site for 3-4 days and all I saw was the mini on the X-Men news and the article on the new Flash series…That’s it…nothing on their take on the War of Kings stuff, the Gaiman return on Batman, the animated stuff DC/Marvel is putting out, not even a Battlestar Galactca update (which I know you guys love)….that’s all I was pointing out…

But fine, label me as negative, even if I was stating a true point. It’s like The Joker in the Dark Knight film….I upset the balanced order of this site, and everyone goes bad shit crazy on me cause I’m trying to give me OPINION *note that word* on a certain topic. I will never critize the dedication to the reporting of this site, all of you work hard for what you do. I was just stating that I didnt get enough info out of this con on this website then I did on other websites. There…that’s all I should’ve said in the beginning….

  14. @Tork – Awesome job on the show notes, thanks dude!

Love the song on this show 🙂

  15. We’re not a news site.  We never have been.  We’re a culture site.  If you want up to the minute updates, this isn’t the place for it.  It’s an unfair criticism.

Feel free to let me know if I dropped the ball on something any time.  Many have.

  16. Hey, my notes are official!  Thanks!

(Though, you may want to fix that Iron Fist gaffe I did…)

  17. @Tork – amazing dedication dude! way to be.

@everyone I met at the con – awesome to meet ya, don’t know if this is the proper thread for it but it was cool hanging out with ifanboy and the ifanbase during the con. it’s cool to talk to the rest of the community while the ifanboys running around working their asses off. all we need now is live streaming HD so you can have an ifanboy 24 hours news network (or just leave the news sites to the news sites, comic’s "journalism" is just parroting what the companies say to push product, not much investigative reporting goes on)

  18. @josh

You could do a better job of not brushing people off.  😉

Really, though, the guys should never buy their own drinks when they’re on the road.  If I ever make it to one of these big cons (it’s tough since I live in KY), I’m good for a few rounds.  Unless Neesman is there.  I can’t afford him.

  19. @Tork – great notes man, you did a real good job of including the funny stuff too.

Concerning coverage, I dont come to Ifanboy for up to the minute news on the happenings of the industry.  I come for the culture and opinions.  Really, who hasn’t jumped too fro the news sites this week.  I know I have made my rounds about the internet trying to find out whats going on in San Diego.  Anyway, I can’t wait to see the giant show next week and all the interviews.  Thanks guys for doing what you do, loving comics (and carrying large bags filled with cameras and stuff around a huge convention center, while not eating or sleeping during most of it to deliver me and a bunch of other people the awesomeness of the SDCC.

  20. @josh: Should I treat you guys to Denny’s? Cause I was harsh on you…your right your not technically a news site. You sometimes break the news, but your more of a blogging site then anything else.

Or get you a discount at Borders? Cause I get lots of discounts there…..like in Killing Joke, I dont want to end up on this site killing each other cause we get into arguments all the time….I’m sorry, really I am…I just dont know how to show it so we dont do this again.

  21. @Josh

Josh, I totally have your back. I marvel at what each of you have  collectively created and the sense of community, conversation and dialogue that has been created. For that I am very grateful and would like to say thank you to each of you for your selfless and dedicated efforts. I find your observations thoughtful, engaging and laced with a love of comics and all that includes without taking yourselves too seriously. I would describe iFanboy as akin to Bart Simpson giving Comic Book Guy a kick in the nuts. You do so much for destroying the stereotype of Fanboy by having productive lives, real world relationships, and most of all not taking all of this so DAMN seriously! All of this done with a unifying thread of professionalism. I hope someday to meet each of you in person and shake your hands. Anyone tempted to call me a brown noser can stick it where the sun don’t shine. If you want news go to newsarama!

  22. @TheNextChampion- there is a way to voice a contrary opinion without attacking people and their work. Any valid point you may or may not have had was ruined by your tone.

If you want to paint yourself as some kind of pariah, that’s you’re prerogative. It’s really not that serious.

  23. Dare I say it?

    Why so serious?

    (guess I do.)

  24. hey guys, just want to say that it was really awesome meeting you guys again (we met last year too) today.  ron, thanks for the sweet ifanboy pin.  as i said, you guys seemed very exhausted when i ran into you during that last hour of the con.

you guys do so much for us and i’m sure everyone here will agree with me when I say that we really appreciate it.

p.s. i waited at the DC booth up to the last minute of the con for a sweet nightwing sketch from Freddie Williams, and it was well worth it.

  25. I have gout too. Really. It hurts like hades! Sour cherry juice helps.

  26. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

I honestly thought it was an entertaining show, given that it was done during the most hectic week in the industry.  And no, we’re not a news site.  In exchange for up to the minute news, you get actual personalities and commentary.  I think that’s a fair trade off.  It’s not a faceless network of journalists.  The audio and video you get on the site is done by the three guys.  Conceived, shot, edited, and distributed.  That’s a lot of work.  The minute by minute news is out there at other sites.  But the commentary is here.  And I think we’ve been doing a great job of that lately.

  27. Take it from someone who doesn’t do any actual work when they are supposed to be "working" a con…these guys are working.

Their camera weights 75 pounds, and that is without the flair.

  28. Just remembering to comment on my favorite thing about this episode — when Gordon walked into the room, I’m pretty sure Ron instinctively, unironically used "frak" as a swear word.  I think it’s in the vernacular now.

  29. This reminds me of a situation I was in once.

There was this lady that lived across the hall from me who loved cookies. Every week she would hold meetings about how much she loved cookies and would share recipes and everything. Then she started giving me a plate of cookies. A whole plate of cookies, all kinds of variety, for free!

Then, after a year of having these meetings and giving me cookies, once a week she started making me a pie! I didn’t even ask for it, I couldn’t believe it. Delicious pie and cookies and content about cookies for free every week!

Because of this, I started making my own cookies and sharing them, and trading my own recipies and stuff. I was fully entrenched in cookie making and cookie eating. Then, soon after the pies, she started giving me a dumpling every day!

So now I was up to free weekly meetings, a free plate of cookies and a pie once a week, and free dumplings every day.

Then came national cookie week. This was a week where everyone who loves cookies gathers in New England to discuss, ,you guessed it, cookies.

Well, the old lady across the whole, didn’t have any meetings, only gave me 1 dumpling, with the promise there would be more with all the stuff she learned, and she only gave me half a plate of cookies. Well, needless to say, I ran over there and kicked her in the balls. The nerve of her.

    …seriously dude….

  30. Did you support the format change to pies?

  31. the only con I’ve been too so far was exhausting to just BE at, I can’t imagine working the thing the whole time.

  32. @ThomasKaters,

At first, I didn’t like it, but then I appreciated it.

  33. here here!

  34. Conor, I had the exact same "ok, so where’s the two-page spread of the view?" reaction. I think that was in the script, but Land said "that sounds hard." He said the same about drawing faces on people who were far away.

    http://awesomedbycomics.blogspot.com/2008/07/who-is-question-x-women-apparently.html

  35. Great show, guys.  I hope the con remained awesome through its conclusion!

And the length was eerily perfect for my dish-washing endeavors.

  36. @CAM – In response to your question, "Why so serious?" I respond:

    Because I believe in iFanboy.

  37. Thanks for posting the show, American chums, it was the perfect length for my walk to work.

  38. @Coner– I noticed you mentioned on the podcast you aren’t a fan of Fraction’s writing, this is a hard question to answer I know but, what turns you off?  Is it the tone or was there a specific story?

  39. Something as large as Comic Con is very difficult to comprehensively cover. I go every year, but always ending learning more about what happened there on the internet than being there in person.

You can kill half your day just waiting in line for a panels.

  40. Although it may contradict my feminist tendencies, how do I apply to be an iFanboy Booth Babe? (iFanbabe?

  41. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

@Megnolia – All booth babe related inquiries should be directed to Gordon the Intern.

  42. Josh, Ron, and Connor, this is my first post and nothing against this weeks podcast, but, I would have been okay with waiting an extra day to give Connor time to read his books, to have a longer and a much more diverse discussion this week, but that’s just one man’s opinion (is that the correct usage of the apostraphe?). Sorry about the run on sentence.

     Justin

  43. I liked the shorter length. Reminded me of the good ‘ole days…

  44. If we had waited, it wouldn’t have happened.  It’s just the all consuming hellfire of the San Diego Comic-Con.

As we said, they were extenuating circumstances.  Next week, it’s back to normal.  Sweet, comforting normal.

  45. Is this the first official iFanbrawl thread? You guys did great, the show was great, and I have the complete confidence that the content that starts rolling out of the iFanboy machine post-con will show any nay-sayer how much work you guys did. I saw you guys at the New York Comic-Con, and that weren’t no day off for you guys, thats for sure.

  46. @ohcaroline – I totally agree about Gordon… once again G-‘tern bring the fried gold!

I can’t wait for the video shows of this con, I have no doubt they’ll be amazing. And blimey! It just hit me how tough it must’ve been posting minis from the con the day after you filmed them. You spoil us, iFanboys!

  47. Preach Josh, Preach.

I think that half (maybe more) the fun of comics is talking about comics and hearing other peoples thoughts and opinions on them.  I think that’s why this site is my favorite comic related one on the internet, and along with The Stack, is my favorite place for reviews.  I think its cool to just hear guys talk comics like regular people talk about comics.

Keep up the good work guys, remember for every negative comment there are tons of other satisfied listeners who stay silent.

  48. PS.

Am I siding with Josh because we have the same name? No, but it doesn’t hurt.

  49. @ Jawshoowah

I am also a big fan of the guys at the Stack. It would be fun to have Pete and Ron trade places for one show.

  50. We know Pete.  He graduated in the same class as the three of us where we went to school.  They might just do the second best comic video show on the web.  It’s a distant second, sure, but what can you do?

    😉

  51. @Josh

In some small way that makes all in the world seem right. I say sign Pete as a free agent. Pete in Beserker mode would add something special to ifanboy podcasts.

  52. CROSS-OVER!!!!!!!!!!

  53. @JumpingJupiter – There already was one, of sorts.

  54. Hey that’s pretty cool. Too bad I couldn’t be there. 🙁
