Wow, Josh is talking about Usagi Yojimbo? I need to find time to listen to this one ASAP!
thanks for reading my review
Fantomex is my favorite X character right now. Just saying.
OPOL = boston
God damn you mutherfuckers. I’m now digging through my dvd collection to find Better Off Dead. I want my TWO DOLLARS!!!!
I liked the top 5 community pick segment. A sort of taking the weekly temperature of the ifanbase. Also allows a brief mention of a popular book that might have slipped through the episode unmentioned. Hope you guys continue doing it.
@vod89 It’s Opal, and no way is that Boston.
if wikipedia is to be believed, Opal is in Maryland. that’s one bustling East Coast in the DCU.
Metropolis can’t be Chicago because Chicago is in DC continuity.
More Rings- I mean more Hammers/
NonPlayer sounded great!
Right until @PraxJarvin told me it will take 6 months for the 2nd issue to come out! So any buzz you guys are talking about will be gone because of that.
“Nazi’s are always good” -Ron Richards
no mention of irredeemable? I thought the last few issues were a bit fillery but this ones brings back the creepiness in a big way and we finally know where this book is going plotwise again. art is still “meh” but did you guys fall out of love w/ this book?
@TheNextChampion the exact line in the show notes is “You don’t have to like Ultimate Cap to like Ultimate Captain America #4”
See that? Up there in the show notes? It kind of means your whole review was wrong.
@Gramercy Nope, we just can’t talk about every book that comes out.
@JNewcomb We’re apart of both Universes. It’s just that both companies seemed intent on blowing us off the face of the earth(I’m looking at you Siege and Gen Lost).
Just what I needed for my journey back from Kapow. Words of the wise.
WOW, I watched that Band of Brothers episode immediately prior to listening to this podcast. Crazy.
@B That’s bizarre!
Thanks for answering my Astonishing question!
@Conor Martian Manhunter being the Earth Elemental makes absolutely perfect sense to me at least. When the Entity asked J’onn to choose between Earth and Mars J’onn chose Earth, so because of that the fact that he is from Mars isn’t as relevant anymore when talking about that particular plot point.
I like the community top 5 too.
Fab show, as ever!
I enjoyed the X-Men .1 issue, though a few more panels involving Kitty and Pete would’ve been nice. I was a bit disappointed that the spread I was thought I was turning to – Magneto raising SF – didn’t appear; rather we got Magneto at the Golden Gate Bridge, homaging one of the films.
I’ll give the book a few issues – like Conor, I tend to try the comic again when there’s a creative team change. I’ll be interested to see if the authorities give Magneto a pass and take his save of SF as somehow proving it wasn’t him who caused the New York disaster. If anything, it’d lend credence to the idea – who else really has that much power? Surely they’d need prove beyond Magneto’s claim that it wasn’t him, which amounts to ‘A big boy did it and ran away’. I loved Magneto’s actions in the Morrison run, they properly established him as the Go To X-Men bad guy. We don’t need another hero, we need someone amazing for the heroes to fight.
Still, I’ve gotten sidetracked – for what it was, the .1 issue was terrific.
I could have sworn I read somewhere that Opal City is in North Carolina. Considering the pirate connection to the city, I think it has to be either the sourthern half of the East Coast or a Gulf state. As I never got a “deep south” feel for Opal I think North Carolina feels right for me.
My favorite part was when Ron says “Aim” like 20 times in a 30 second period. Almost as if his mind had been tampered with! Ron, why DO your thoughts become so confused when the topic of AIM is brought up, hmm? My guess? You are a sleeper MODOC (Mensch designed Only for Digesting Odd Comics)…seek help before you end up on the receiving end of Cap’s shield.
Chicago isnt Gotham? Didnt somebody like Bob Kane say that or something? Like ‘gotham’ is an old nickname for chicago or something? Maybe I imagined all that!
@kidCharlemagne –Gotham has been a nickname for NYC since the early 1800s.
Hey I got my review read on the podcast 🙂 , I am glad I wasn’t the only one scratching my head at the whole architect’s spread in the Fear Itself comic.
I’ll let it slide this time. But if Nonplayer #2 isn’t POTW when it’s released, I will have words with you boys.
@RonSwanson Well, we’ve got time.
