ZATANNA #5

Zatanna and her cousin Zachary might have their differences – okay, they drive each other crazy – but if they don’t stick together, they’ll be taken to the cleaners by one of Hell’s most powerful demons! He’s betting it all on a chance to claim Zatanna’s soul, and in Vegas, the house always wins!

  1. I’m really looking forward to this.  I can tell Dini loves this character and I’ve really enjoyed reading it.  I love that it’s stand alone and really explores the magic of the DCU.  It’s my favorite corner.

Any chance for a Shadowpact guest appearance?

  2. Sadly this is the closest title to being dropped on my list. I like the art, and I like the stories but I just don’t really care. Still on though because its a light week.

  3. @Minion – I can relate. Love the character, really LOVE the art, the stories have been good, but I’m still kinda "meh" about it. It’s not something I am super excited to read, but I don’t regret reading it and do enjoy it once I am done. Maybe it will pick up, it’s only 5 issues in. I’ll be around for a while to see if it happens.

  4. I am very "meh" as well.  And I’m sure there will eventually be fill-in writers and Dini will drift away like he did with Gotham City Sirens.  🙁

  5. While I do like the way this is kind of in it’s own corner of the DCU, I still think this series is the perfect vehicle for exploring the various other Magical characters in the DCU. A Dr. Fate appearance would really make my day.

  6. @360Logic — Yes, I agree.  This title should be very much like a mystical/magical "Brave and the Bold".  Dr. Fate, Gentleman Ghost, Blue Devil, Spectre, Detective Chimp, and Phantom Stranger would be on the top of my list for desired cameos.  Hell, throw in an appearance by some of the Shazam family members, too.

  7. I’d like to see her with Batman, Constantine, Swamp Thing, Batwoman, Flash, and Etrigan.

  8. @Urthona – You’re right. They need to do a Zatanna + Constantine cross over.

  9. It was ok. I’ll have to wait and see how I feel when it shows up again.

  10. @BCDX97 you know this is probably why he left GCS right? He’s been trying to get this off the ground for years.  He loves Zatanna so I would be suprised to see him ditch it so soon.  I mean, its basically his wife as a superhero.

  11. I know there’s a lot of suspension of disbelief in comics, and sometimes it allows a reader to just enjoy what he/she is reading at the moment, but the writing that I enjoy the most are the one’s that are able to balance the real and fantasy, to make extraordinary circumstances seem like it could happen today. I think the same sentiment is involved in what has been a proliferation of comic book movies that we’ve seen in the last several years, so as it pertains to this issue:  fire in a person’s lungs will pretty much kill you pretty quickly, and that part sort of turned me off, she even said she literally had fire in her lungs, why aren’t you coughing or spitting up blood?  You get fire even in your mouth, that will debilitate you pretty horribly….tried to just accept that it didn’t do much damage to our beloved heroine, but c’mon.
