  1. I’m really looking forward to this issue, I always felt that Exodus never got his due as a proper villian. Hopefully Gage can do just that.

  2. My recollection is that Exodus started out mysterious and interesting, but then suffered from a power set that was not particularly original (super ESP, basically) and over-powered. He is also one of yet another mutants that has been around for millenia, which seems an over-used origin. How many “children of the atom” should there really be before the atomic age? Anyway, just because he was not particularly interesting in the past, doesn’t mean a revamp couldn’t make him interesting now. Take Rhino, over in Spider-man, who is now one the most interesting of Spider-man’s villains thanks to Joe Kelly.

  3. I’m really excited for this issue, and I kind of agree about Exodus. He is a very promising character, but there is always something about the way he used that never seems right. He even his most rescent (which was years ago) as leader of Brotherhood, in Messiah Complex, and at the start of the retitling to X-Men Legacy seemed a little murky. Gage has real promise on this book and hopefully he can fully utilize this character.

  4. I really liked Gage and Lopez’s first issue and how it filled in the gaps from Wolverine and The X-Men.

And they’ve got a fun cast that I’m interested in getting to know better. The fact that Rogue is in control of her powers actually makes me like her character (never cared for her before), Rachel is a character that I don’t know much about but I feel like she’s never been featured very heavily. And I’m not sure we’ve ever seen Cannonball and Husk co-star in a book for any meaningful length of time. For as long as they’ve both been around (30 for Cannonball and almost 20 — yeesh — for Husk), I feel like their relationship has never been very well-developed.

    • I haven’t read the issue yet (I order almost all of my books online and get them at the end of the month) but from what you’ve said I’m pretty excited about getting the previous issue. I always wondered why no one did a better job with Cannonball and Husk, it seemed like they weren’t involed in one another’s lives at all for LONG stretches of the comics even though they were siblings living in the same place.

I’m a little on the fence about Rogue being in control of her powers. I always thought that inability to have human contact was an intereresting part of her character, but they have been drawing that out for a long time too, maybe it will be good to try something new.

    • Rogue’s been around since 1980, right? The whole “Ah’ll Nevah touch anyone!” stuff was I think what got me away from the X-books (for the first time since I started reading comics) back after the Age of Apocalypse.

    • Definitely agreed about Rogue. It was interesting for a while I guess, but I got so sick of her angsting all over the place.

    • The one thing I’m worried about now with Rogue is how they’ll avoid having her be too powerful. I think it would be easy for an author to use her as an out for any storyline because she can basically incapacitate any villain with touch and/or use the powers of any X-Man around her and now she doesn’t have to worry about what will happen or the ramifications in any way (I thought the era where she and Ms. Marvel basically shared a body was really interesting). But I’ve said before that i have a lot of faith in Gage and I’m really looking forward to this run.

    • I agree with you Ken. I really didn’t like the last couple of story arcs in Legacy, however these couple of issues were really good. I am enjoying the new direction so far. I kinda disagree with your assessment regarding Rogue. I actually found her to be a more compelling character when she wasn’t able to have human contact with anyone (except for of course the Sentry). Also, I think New Mutants is sorely missing Cannonball.

  5. Anybody else hate Kid Gladiator? I was ok when he was just in the one WatX book I wasn’t reading but now that he’s spreading I’m getting worried. I thought Gladiator’s whole planet was dead and that he killed most of them? Wasn’t this established a few years back in one of the cosmic books?

  6. This book is a lot of fun. Mike Carey’s run never quite did it for me. But this is nice new direction. Following Wolverine and the X-Men’s rambunctious tone and bright coloring. Cristos Gage has brought a lot of his Avengers Academy fun to this title. The end line in this issue of “Did we just get Cyclops killed?” cracked me up.

  7. Gave this a try for the new creative team and I’m reading all the other Team Wolverine books anyway. It was good and I’ll stick with it for now. I like the characters it’s focusing on. It’s got a comedy tone to match WatX. The faces took some getting used to but otherwise I like the art.
