X-MEN HELLBOUND #1 OF (3)

Fighting for the future of mutantkind, the X-Men are locked in battle with Bastion, staving off his forces even by sacrificing themselves. When Magik is gravely injured in battle, she instinctively flees to the sanctuary of Limbo…only to fall into the clutches of a longtime adversary hoping to wrest the powerful Soulsword – and control of Limbo – from her grasp. Now, a small team of X-Men venture in after her, but they are met only by unexpected peril: a horde of demons out for blood, Magik nowhere in sight, and a concealed evil walking amongst them.

  1. I think Second Coming might actually be moving too fast for me… "When Magik is gravely injured in battle"  Definitely don’t remember that happening.

  2. In chapter one, when the x-men alpha team first encounter Cable and Hope, Magik gets shot by a canon and then drag into a portal.

  3. wasn’t it a weaponized ritual or something?  that has Fraction written all over it

  4. What is wrong with me?! I’m…. I’m…. thinking about picking this up!

    Eh, why not? Light week.

  5. Definitely going to pick this mini up. Cyclops needs his main muscle Colossus so he sets up an interesting group led by Cannonball. Northstar, Trance, Gambit, Dazzler, Pixie, and Anole.

  6. Didn’t we already do this but called it "Infernus"?

@XManRyan  If that’s the team I’m in though.  Please, I’m a gay man.  All you had to say was Dazzler, Northstar & Anole and I was sold.

  7. @zattaric – that is likely the gayest possible lineup.  It’s a shame that Rictor is tied up in X-Factor

  8. Well, there is the fact that X-Infernus was god awful, super-terrible bad. I dimly recollect that it solved nothing and made the state of everyone’s soul even murkier than before. I think Pixie lost a little more soul and that is all of any import that happened. I would hope this would do what that Infernus series was probably originally supposed to do, return Illyana to some semblence of normal, resolve the missing soul stone nonsense, and clarify what the hell is up with the Magik and Pixie characters and their devil powers. At this point I would take one of those three as an acceptable result.

  9. Man, I loved X-Infernus.  I agree that not a lot happened besides getting Illyana back in play, but that’s comics.  It was an entertaining story with great character moments and great art, that’s enough for me

  10. The X-Infernus mini series was a great start to the New Mutant series. Pixie became one of my favorite            X-babies. Hope that they get this soul stone problem all fixed out. Colossus needs to take a chill pill and stop being all annoying at times.

  11. All the interesting stuff from returning Illyana happened in the New X-Men books. X-Infernus just rehashed it, made a mess, and dropped off Illyana with little more than a How-do-you-do. OK, if I am being totally honest the first X-infenus issue was actually good, with the return of the Soulsword, but it nose-dived rapidly from there.

  12. to be fair, it was all Darkchylde in NEW X-MEN.  Infernus was the transition back to Illyana

I do agree that it fizzled out, although I thought the first 3 issues were all 4’s or 5’s

  13. "Longtime adversary"?  Oh god I hope it’s not Belasco again.

  14. The cover makes it look as though the longtime enemy could be N’astirh. While I don’t even remember it, Wikipedia claims he made an appearance during the Quest for Magic storyline. He apparently is still all T-O virused up, to which I can only exclaim "Great, more Techno-organic virus. Can’t get enough."

  15. I actually really liked this issue.  The New X-Men characters’ reactions to going to get Illyana were realistic and totally hilarious.  Since Illyana’s come back, she’s been a total monster.

  16. Wasn’t even going to pick this up, and it’s in contention for my POW. What an awesome, exciting, emotional issue. I love eclectic teams, and this one is full of characters I love. Way to bring it on two books in one week, Yost!

  17. I thought that while this lagged a little bit there toward the middle, it was mostly enjoyable.  I’d give it X-Book of the Week, despite not really knowing who anyone on the team is.

  18. Christopher Yost has done it again! Great first issue to the mini series and tie-in to this week’s Uncanny X-Men #524. Damn was that N’astirh at the end?

  19. Damn interesting team!

I’m glad somone is dealing with how fucking whiney the New X-Men kids have been. "Oh, my poor, poor soul!" 🙂

Anyone know the signifigance of Sam picking up Gambits burnt card? I think it will be some kind of subconcious warning from him to Sam about the reemergeance of this Death personality.

  20. @ AlanRob

I think that the New X-Men kids have a right to be a little "whiny".  They’ve been treated as the "red-headed step children" of the x-universe.

  21. @zattaric   I dont deny they have a right to be whiney. But they are also official "adult" members of a paramilitary organization attempting to stop their own excitinction.  There are certain responsibilties they have and they need to grow up.  Like in one of the one story in Nation X where Rockslide and two other New XMen (I forget which two), attempt to steal communal food that Warpath is guarding. WTF!

I’m not saying I dont enjoy the plot point. I do.  They are teenagers and they act like teenagers.  What I mean is that I’m glad Yost is addressing the behavior by having other X-Men react to it more than I have seen lately.

  22. @ AlanRob

That story in Nation X was supposed to be comedic. The writer just played it so awkwardly that it came off as completely straight.

And frankly, Illyana’s brother and teammates have been incredibly dismissive of the damage she did to the X-Kids.

  23. @Bornin   I think the the X-men have always traditionally been pretty dismissive of a teammembers bad behavior if they can attribute it to some other entity/person. The most famous example being  Phoeinx/Jean Grey.   They are ALWAYS willing to lay their lives down for a teammate, even a contaminated one.

Again I’m not saying I dont like the plot point.  Im just glad that a senior member is telling them to get over it.
