  1. Can’t resist this.

  2. An X-23 ongoing? I’m not exactly sure why I love this character so much, but this book excites me like no other this week.

  3. @t-bird32: Agreed.  It’s weird.

  4. I’m actually embarrassed to pull this, but I need my fix

  5. Must have…

  6. New X-men made me really like her character. Its Wolverine meets Terminator meets young teenage girl. I think she works better as a character in a team book, but I will certainly give this a shot.

  7. embarrassed is correct

  8. So far, Wolverine’s and Salem’s respective titles have been good, and I’m curious to see how this book ranks in the new SNICKT-verse. This should be good.

  9. I liked this issue. I like the whole "girl trying to not be what she alwyas has been" theme

  10. I don’t think this is a very good first issue.  What’s the story?  What’s the conflict? Where’s this going?  We should have some sense of these things as a hook for the first issue.  Laura has psychological issues, yes.  We already knew that.  She’s supposed to help former mutants, I guess.  Not enough meat here yet.

Wasn’t feeling all the stuff with the other X-Men.  I’ve been mostly away from the franchise for a bit and cannot connect with the current status quo.  All I could think about was how stupid it is that Hellion is missing his hands in those scenes.  Jumping right into X-23’s new story would’ve been preferable for a reader like me.

The art and coloring was probably the deal breaker.  I don’t mean to crap on this book so much and I want to like it but they’ve given me no reason to read the second issue here.

  11. The characterization of X-23 was great in this book. She felt authentic. Based on this and the one shot that came out several months back, there’s no doubt that Marjorie Liu gets this character.

I know some folks are grumbling about the art, but I did like how it was used creatively to contrast between the two realities and the corresponding emotional states of the characters.

  12. I think this was a good jumping on point! It explained that Laura has run the gammat like wolverine, good, bad, and lots of grey.  And not sure where she is going next, a lot like Wolverine. The interior art was pretty good despite the crappy overly cartoony cover.  If there is only room for one Wolverine-eque chrachter, I vote X-23 over Daken ANY DAY!

  13. Agreed.  The cover was "grade-school goth" but the interior art made up for it.  I LOVE this character.  She’s so broken and misunderstood.  My Magic 8 Ball tells me her volunteering will help her learn about humanity and her character will hit an emotional growth spurt.

  14. I read this because I loved Liu’s Black Widow. I have no idea who most of these people are. Have the feeling I am missing vital background that would make this make sense to me…

  15. My Magic 8 ball suggests that all the x-mutants she went to help are dead and she is presently drenched in their blood. At least that is how I read the scene. She will think someone pheromoned her into murder, when in fact demon wolverine did it.

Or so says my 8 ball.
