UNCANNY X-MEN #542

FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN

The situation is becoming increasingly clear: there is literally nothing which can avert Juggernaut is marching step by step towards Utopia. However, an offer by the Serpent’s servant puts human and mutant at each others’ throats. In the third part of the epic Fear Itself confrontation, the enemy within is as big a threat as the enemy without. The clock is ticking. And for one X-Man, it’s already too late.

  1. I love an “everyone has to be involved to take down the Juggernaut” story as much as the next guy, but for some reason this arc is making more excited for post-Schism Uncanny than I should be

  2. Is Greg land going to be drawing either of the post schism books? If he is then I’m out, don’t care how good the story is I can’t handle this art anymore.

  3. This Fear Itself story has been pretty cool. I haven’t hated the art. But for some reason I can’t wait for this to be over. Anxious to see what Gillen can really do when he’s not bogged down in a tie in of some kind. Oh wait, this is the X-Men, they are ALWAYS bogged down in a tie-in of some kind…

  4. As much as I’ve been hating on Land, last issue looked pretty good. Not sure what the whole story is, but I really enjoy Gillen’s dialogue.

  5. Last issue was a good Juggernaut story. I even thought Land put together some good action sequences. I only cringed at his constantly repeating porn star women in that issue (oh, lord, the Mayor fingernails on the chalkboard irritating). I don’t know where they go from there as there doesn’t appear to be any groundwork on how you beat such a creature, but let’s say what we get.

  6. Actually enjoyed all the different plans especially thought the gambit one was pretty slick. However land’s art as always REALLY brought this down overall. 3/5

  7. I’ve been mildly enjoying this arc up to now, but this feels like the issue where it starts coming together. And I’m mature enough to admit that Land did a nice job with this issue. The panel of Juggernaut crossing the chasm, Cyclops taking down a nutcase, and the final scene all looked really nice!

  8. I really enjoyed this issue. In fact, I enjoyed EVERY Fear Itself tie-in I read this week. How about that…

  9. Gillian really hasn’t wowed me at all since he took over the book. I absolutely LOVE the X-men and i’m truly surprised at the praise i hear for this run. I find it only slightly better than Brubaker’s stuff and just under most of Fractions. That being said, the biggest thing that caught my attention in this issue was the Emma stuff. Im REALLY curious to see where they take this, especially since they haven’t really touched upon any of the Emma/Hope/Pheonix stuff that was teased at the end of Messiah War.

  10. So will he be Colossernaut or Juggerssus?

  11. Last panel should have read: “I’m the Juggernaut, bitch.” Oh well!

    Fantastic issue.

  12. Greg Land decided to trace Emma Frost into a pose where she’s on all fours with her ass in the air. It’s like he’s just trying to piss me off now.
