  1. it pains me that I didn’t like this title very much. I may pick this up to dip my toe in again…

  2. I had to subscribe and get a much deeper discount to convince myself to stick with it.

  3. I’m in the minority here, I’ve been loving Gillen’s run on this. Definitely a more serious take on X-Men than the wacky hijinx of Wolverine and the X-Men (which I also enjoy thoroughly). Great juxtaposition between the two main books. It’s a great time to be an X-Men fan!

    • I’ve been liking this to, I like the way gillen writes these characters and I dig the whole tabula rasa story so far.

    • I enjoyed this series, but I just didn’t love it. I just decided Wolverine was more my “cup of tea” then Uncanny.

    • I think Gillen is the best X-Men writer since I’ve been buying them in monthly issues (10 years). That being said, this book has really gone down hill for me since Schism.

    • I’m really loving this series too. In fact as much as I also loved Batman this week, uncanny X was actually my favorite pick of the week. I like the way Gillen is playing with concepts of evolution and essentially giving us a taste of what it feels like to be a squirrel next to a human.

The only thing i didn’t like was the ability to pick up a language so fluently that the apex can use words he’s never heard spoken… Without some sort of telepathy i’m not sure how you’d guess to use the word ‘apex’ since he doesn’t know any of the root languages of english.
wish that’d been explained a bit better since the language comprehension is pretty heavily laced into the apex’s comments about superiority.

  4. Series that are this inconsistent shouldn’t be $3.99. I can see that on a title like Wolverine & The X-Men, in which you’re getting great artists matched with great storylines. But with Uncanny X-Men the art has been all over the map, and they’re pointlessly forcing issues out like every other week. They’re up to issue 7 already! And the Uncanny #1 came out AFTER the Wolv & The X-Men title, which is only at #5, even though that’s come out more frequently than once a month as well!

    • As much as I’d like all my comics to be $2.99, the flagship X-book (at least in terms of history) will probably never have a second-tier price point.

  5. I’m not sure what tiers has to do with it, Amazing Spider-Man is 2.99 for example.

    • Unless the entries on the pull list page are wrong, Amazing Spider-man is a $3.99 book (except for the .1 issue this week).

But that isn’t to say there’s an overwhelming amount of consistency in whatever methodology Marvel uses to set prices. Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine and the X-Men and Uncanny X-Force all seem to have the stature (due to tradition and/or popularity) to justify the higher tier price. I get that.

And the mid-stature X-Books like X-Men Legacy, New Mutants, X-Factor (which are all solid books, so don’t think I’m ragging on them) get the lower price tier, presumably to encourage new readers to give it a chance (worked on me!).

To me, the inconsistency comes with Adjectiveless X-Men and Astonishing X-Men. I haven’t read either one in a while, but at least as far as perceived stature is concerned, I’d put them behind books like Legacy, New Mutants and X-Factor, despite the fact they’re both $3.99 books.

      So who knows?

  6. If we like a book and we want to continue to read it even though we can’t afford it we still buy it. I am sorry that is the nature of the beast when it comes to being a comicbook fan/collector/ or whatever it is we call our selves these days. Prices will continue to increase no matter what we do or say until the point where no one can afford them and the market becomes smaller and smaller or digiital takes over completely. I would like to think that there is a ceiling however; look at every product in the world there will always be an increase. I don’t like paying 2.99 and even more so hate 3.99 but like I said earlier I am going to do what I have to to read my comics!! The we budget and can only read so many which really is not fair to some rather decent titles that will be cancelled in the process. They should try and go back and manufacture the books using cheaper paper and save us some bread. I do not really know what the answer is and I can not pretend that I do, all I can do is hope for something good in the future.
As for the Uncanny X-Men this is the final issue for me in a battle of the budget for this or Wolverine and the X-Men can’t keep both. Right now Wolverine is in the lead and pulling away with his title which has been a lot of fun ever since the second issue.

  7. Its almost like Gillen just doesn’t care anymore… How can he go from writing perfection (Journey into mystery, Gen Hope) to spewing out this total crapfest? Remender set him up so good with Tabula Rasa and Gillen just dropped the ball.

Can’t even believe i’m about to say it but…… Bring back Matt Fraction!

  8. I love this series and it would be a 4 star book if not for Greg Land’s Art

  9. Just not good enough, the artwork was good and the story was still boring and really did not care for these god like creatures that could blow up the plant almost at will with thier Sheldon-ess intelligence!! It was easily stopped and just seemed to be a time killer for something, no real steak and potatoes here. Maybe I am losing it or this just seemed like a very third rated story line for a new title starting out. Is this not a flagship title for Marvel? Cyclops is just just so boring, droll and uninteresting; what happen to him or has he always been this way?? I really have only had a little experience with him in comics vs the cartoons.
Either way he does’nt have anyone to keep him in check here without Wolvie!!

    SORRY UNCANNY X-MEN CANCELLED!!
    (for sure this time)

  10. I’m enjoying it its fine. I started reading all the problems with Lands work, so I googled it. Wow. He does trace & re use alot of work. I never knew that. Now to be honest I find I start looking at his characters and start thinking hmm was this from a magazine, porn, or another comic? Its kind of fun. But it detracts from the actual comic. I dont know what Im rambling on about, but Im sticking with the book. 3/5
