UNCANNY X-MEN #544

‘Eulogy’

After the hammer-blow of FEAR ITSELF and the violence of SCHISM, it can’t go on.

It’s the end of the Uncanny X-Men.

And who better to provide a stirring eulogy than… MISTER SINISTER?

Join us for the end of the industry-shaping series with the return of the 19th century’s finest morally dubious scientist.

  1. Oh please, a year and a half and two events from now this book will be back, same title, same numbering. No chance I’m buying this just because it the ‘Final Issue.’ I can’t stand lame money grabs like this.

    • Thanks for letting us know.

I’m going to continue enjoying things I like regardless of the little number in the corner.

    • So you’re saying you would buy it if Marvel guaranteed it really was the absolute last issue? Or you would buy it only if the next issue kept the same numbering?

    • You’re overthinking this, man. If you like x-men, buy it. If not, don’t. “same title” #1 already has preview artwork. Guess you called it, huh? *rolls eyes*

    • Woah woah woah haters…I was just saying I’m not a fan of trying to trump up sales by pulling a ‘final issue’ stunt. They have already solicited the new Uncanny #1 so how is this a final issue? In my mind this kind of thing is just very annoying. How often do we see a ‘final issue’ or a renumbering to #1? The only real point I see of doing that is to try to bump up sales for that issue. That’s all I was saying, let quality speak for itself and dictate sales rather than a fictitious ‘final issue.’ It just seems very gimmicky to me. That was some serious negativity there guys, that it easy, maybe less caffine in the morning…

    • there’s just been a lot of complaining lately and its getting pretty old.

    • I was expressing an opinion, just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t make it complaining. Maybe next time the thing to do would be attempt to engage in discussion by articulating your point rather than lashing out at a poster. I was commenting about what I viewed as a shameless money grab, perhaps you could have tried to convince me I was wrong rather than *rolling your eyes*. If you’re getting tired of people ‘complaining’ perhaps complaining about all the complaining is a little counter productive? No one will want to engage you in discussion if you are attacking them. Try to remember, just because I attack something you like, doesn’t mean I’m attacking you.

    • It’s cool if you’re annoyed by it USPUNX, but really… comics (especially Marvel) have ALWAYS been about gimmicks and shameless money grabs (think back to “In This Issue….Character Z DIES!!!!” and other such Stan Lee marketing tactics).

Maybe you’re new to comics, but – love it or hate it – gimmick marketing is kind of par for the course.

I remember actually feeling mildly depressed and a little upset when it looked like all the X-titles were ending thanks to Age of Apocalypse back in the day. That experience schooled me REAL quick!

  2. Land’s artwork has been pretty solid, and I like the preview pages we’ve seen. Gillen is doing a job with this group of characters, and i think I’ll be following Uncanny come November.

  3. Land is the reason I dropped Uncanny both times I’ve dropped it. At long last the nightmare is over. I’m on board for the relaunch, I don’t care what number it is. I love Gillen’s writing and want an X book, so bring it.

  4. Very excited to see where this goes. Gillen has been the best writer on Uncanny X-Men in AT LEAST 6 years, and his scripts have been incredibly solid.

  5. Few things. Uncanny did not need to be relaunched to #1. The teams did need to be split in such a way. I’m sure they could have gone separate ways peacefully, now its going to be fanboys saying #wolverine #cyclops and some of the sidings were ridiculous. Iceman with Wolverine. Come on! I hope he finally does something useful otherwise his move back to Westchester makes no sense
I wasn’t really looking forward to reading this but it was one of my 3 most looking forward to #1 Justice League #2 Uncanny and #Fear Itself (did not buy it, just wanted to see what a train wreck it ended on and boy did it deliver!)
Anyways the best thing coming out of this relaunch is Pacheco on art. No more art by Land

  6. Probably the first Gillen issue I’ve liked since his first two. I’m very excited for this split and just to move on and start letting these writers tell their stories. The biggest problem with the flagship x-books has been Fraction’s move to Utopia and the decision to use a cast of 30+ characters, instead of a focused core team approach. Not to mention the science club which I’m praying is a thing of the past for UXM.

I’ve got a lot of faith in Aaron’s title, and I’m willing to stick with Gillen for a little while to give him an honest shot. Besides, I’ve always had a soft spot for Mister Sinister, at least Claremont’s version

  7. R.I.P. Uncanny X-Men (1963-2011)

    Also, where’s the Professor?

  8. A fair farewell to the first volume of Uncanny, but let’s be real – they’re just pressing the reset button on the numbering. With that in mind, this was a more emotive “final” issue than I was expecting, and a far more touching story than many final issues I’ve read of books that did NOT return the following month with a brand new #1 issue. So yay Uncanny. RIP and welcome back.
