UNCANNY X-MEN #534

“QUARANTINE,” Part 5 (pf 5)

The X-Men have an infectious, killer disease. What could possibly mean enough to make them break quarantine and risk exposing the world? And when that plague cuts them off from their powers, what would be the use of doing so anyway? Cyclops has his answers. You can make up your own mind. Meanwhile, Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw finish their physical debate… and the final words will change their relationship forever.

  1. Is this the final Fraction co-written piece? I hope so. Split writing tends to muddy the whole thing. Although let me throw this out to Mr. Gillen, wherever he may be. It is great that YOU know what real Welsh teenagers sound like. I, however, just stare blinking at the page wondering what the hell you are going on about with Pixie. There are no accents when I read it and I don’t want any added phonetically (ugh, I am recalling some painful Scottish Rahnes over the years), so most of the charm you hear in your head is lost on me. I am not saying to stop it altogether, but a tweak may be in order.

  2. I for one love Eye Accents. Gives the book a nice sense of realism. This arc has been a bit of a mess, but I’m hopefully Kieron can turn things around for me.

  3. The girls, especially Emma, seem to be dreaming of naughty things rather then being passed out.

    Not complaning mind you.

  4. Thank merciful christ this story is over

  5. I actually liked this arc, because for once Kitty was actually doing something.

  6. @TheNextChampion That is because it is a Greg Land cover. His women always look like porn stars. No, scratch that. They always look like the same porn star. All the photo-traciing/copying nonsense aside, the reason I don’t like Land is that his drawings can’t “act” and without the costumes I can’t tell one woman from the next. At least make them look like different porn stars, Greg.

  7. How much closer does this story line need to be before GM can sue for plagiarism?  Whereas Remender builds on GM’s new x-men work, this just feels like wholesale copying.

Greg Land should be able to afford at least three porn star photo reference packages by now, yes?

  8. Still, I liked Wolverine’s faceoff with the faux Wolvie.

  9. Looking forward to seeing Gillen save this after Fraction’s run!

  10. Liked the twist there at the end, hard to admit cus have always been down on Fraction’s writing, but it was an effective way to show how brilliant a leader Cyclops is.

Will always enjoy Greg Land’s amazing art.

  11. I feel like Greg Land is getting better and I really enjoyed this arc. Best thing I read this week.

  12. If you are trying to hide a man inside a new identity, why wuould you drop a white man in the middle of China. I suspect more questions will be asked about his mysterious appearance.

Also, WTF with the Avengers Academy issue from a year ago? It was a solid issue, but I don’t get what Marvel is thinking. Just rubbing in our face that they put mutants in it when supposedly they don’t get created any more (I saw no explanation for their powers besides mutant)?
