  1. I’m not really sure why I keep trying out Loeb books.  I guess I’m just hoping one of them will actually be good.

  2. Ooooo Frank Cho. Ewww Jeph Loeb.

  3. Despite my love of the Ultimate Universe and that fact that I can’t wait to read Ultimate Avengers, I just can’t bring myself to pick this one up.  Not an extreme Loeb hater either, maybe it’s the title.

  4. Thor has a hammer and an axe!

  5. @amircat i just noticed that

  6. Tried Ultimates 3–Read the whole thing and enjoyed it despite the poor plot.

Tried Hulk–Read it for a year and a half and enjoyed it just enough to stomach the dialogue.

Tried Ultimate X #1–Will not buy #2 because the plot is too generic and Loeb writing teenagers is sickening.

Ultimate Comics New Ultimates #1–Not even going to try.

  7. here’s the thing. You can’t keep buying Loeb books and than complain about the man.

Don’t buy his books and before you know it they won’t make anymore of his books.

and this arguement that "hey, comics should be fun and that’s why loeb sells" is rubbish. he’s books are stupid and poorly made; that’s not a formula for a fun book

  8. @edward Oh leave me alone you old grump!!

  9. I don’t know why we need this book. Hopefully we’ll get dd:yellow and batman:dark victory loeb and not Hulk loeb

  10. @Vada: help me, help you!

  11. I’m giving it one comic to prove me wrong. Cut me a break.

  12. @Vada: don’t do it!

  13. I don’t like that the Powers-That-Be are giving Loeb control over seemingly 50% of the Ultimate Universe.

That’s just asking for it to be re-broken, isn’t it?

  14. @edward I hate all Australians now.

  15. So we have the Ultimates and the Ultimate Avengers…Why the hell do we need two avenger teams in the ultimate universe,,,Are the ultimate Avengers kinda like the Thunderbolts..a covert opp team

  16. @drdeeeznutz sure sounds like it

  17. @vada: i just spoken to the parliament – we’re cool with that

  18. spoke

  19. I thought Ultimates 3 was so bad that I just can’t touch this.  A part of me.. a deep, dark, masochistic part… wants to try it.. but no.  I shall NOT!  (please check back Wed. night to see if I’ve kept that vow)

  20. Whatever happened to Captain America: White?

  21. @s1lent I would assume it was either abandoned or shelved for the time being.  I haven’t heard about it in several months now.

  22. @vadaowens and s1lentslayer        You know it will resurface just in time for the movie!

I’m not going to pick this up. I didnt buy Ultimate X because Loeb wrote it, so I guess I have to stick to my guns.  Funny thing is I dont think I will be buying Ultimate Avengersafter the current arc as a result of the book.  I thought it was going to be a Millar penned Ultimates ongoing, but I guess this is the real Ultimates ongoing. I have no interest in paying for ANOTHER Ultimates 3.

  23. Ultimate Avengers is much, much closer to the original Ultimates to me. Well, the first part of Ultimates2, anyways.

  24. Loeb continues his quest to turn the Ultimate universe into their exact Marvel proper counterparts.  The preview for this looked wonderful and read like awful Loeb.  Just reading this Not buying it.

  25. The art will be amazing.  Yes it will.  I will buy this in paperback.

  26. I don’t understand why they had to make thor’s hammer look just like the one in 616, i liked the one he had when hitch drew ultimates

  27. This was awful. Cho’s art couldn’t save it. This is not an heir to Millar/Hitch at all — this is indulgent, directionless nonsense.

  28. Ditch Loeb, bring back Hitch.

Why is next next issue coming out 3 months after this one? Why wouldn’t Marvel just wait till the next few issues were done. That way we don’t get another Ultimate Hulk VS Wolverine incident.

    I’m dropping this book.

  29. There’s no way in hell Frank Cho can keep this book on a monthly schedule.

  30. 3 months?  That’s insane, even for Marvel.

  31. Damn the females in this book were really horny

  32. This wavered in spot between being the right tone and then going completley hokey. The defenders showing up and having a protracted fight? Hokey. Stark talking with Danvers? Not bad. My big problem with this book though is the reference to Loeb’s son Sam, who died of cancer a few years ago. I feel
for Loeb, I really do. I can’t imagine what it would be like to lose a child, but it just feels wrong to use his son’s name so blatantly in what already feels like a vapid and souless comic
book. It’d be one thing of he was telling a heart fealt meaningful story (as was done in the amazing ‘superman/ batman 25’) but to put it a ‘time to pay the mortgage’ super hero book like this? It just feels wrong.

  33. Hold on I got to put this foot in my mouth.  This is really hard for me to say but…. I liked New Ultimates.  I thought what he was doing to the Defenders originally was stupid but the way he does it made it ok.  I think if Loeb takes his time and plans out a story and not throw ideas together and see’s which one stick this can be very good.

  34. Shit I accidentily hit 4 when I meant 2 >_> *unpulls and repulls* Now that’s an ifanboy nightmare.

  35. Gave up reading the words and just looked at the pictures after the first few pages.

Loeb is still awful. I can’t believe my beloved Ultimates have sunk so low.

  36. I don’t understand what the hell is going on with the Ultimates.

After Ultimatum we have 2 Ultimates books.

Ultimate Comics: Avengers is a lot like the the first 2 Ultimates seasons and is all kinds of fun, Pacheo’s art kicks ass and it just picks the bits it wants from Ultimates 3 and goes on telling an awesomely fun story.

Ultimates: New Ultimates also takes place after Ultimatum and seems to pick up where Ultimates 3 lets off – bad story poor structure and basically set up for Cho to draw horny women.

The Defenders they encounter and the fight that ensued was ridiculous.

This is all headed for disaster when they could have just released the 4th season of the Ultimates and have it penned by Millar – he freaking set up those first 2 seasons it was written to crap and atleast in the 4th season he would try to make amends.  However having these 2 parallel books that ignore each other is stupid.
