  1. That’s a great design for the new Swamp Thing. Last issue was probably the best of the series so far, even with my criticisms of the art. But I still think this is a great series despite my nagging issues on it.

    • I’m wondering if you’re in the minority on the art complaints because I got the general feeling that Paquette nailed last issue. I’m just wondering and not criticising your opinion – we all like what we like.

    • @markavo: No I’m sure I am the only one on here slightly complaining about the art. It’s the border designs that bug me in that they are wonderfully designed but hurt the flow of the issue. But to be fair, Yanick Paquette started following me on Twitter and agreed the layouts were hurting the issue slightly. I think he said once #9 starts he’s got them down perfectly. But either way it’s a gorgeous looking book with only a few minor nitpicks.

    • Speaking of the border designs, if I was to perform the sacrilege of tearing the book apart, does anyone else think the pieces would connect to make some kind of big collage or something?

  2. Last issue saved old Swampy from being weed wacked from my pull list. I liked the wings as he flew away last issue and headed out to save his woman! The new design looks pretty good except lets see it up close and see what happens on Wednesday.

    • last issue saved this from getting wacked off my list as well. i hope the pace doesn’t slow back down to a slow burn. i’m ready for resolution and i don’t want to see it stretched out over another 8 issues.

  3. He’s a beautiful butterfly.

  4. so exited for the 2nd ‘arc’ of this book.

  5. Fuck. Yeah! 😀

  6. I can’t wait to see the new guy in action. I love that there isn’t really a status quo for what the new Swampy can do powers wise. I’m also interested to see the new Abby, and the desert fortress of the Rot, this should be a real treat; top of the pile for sure.

  7. That cover is fantastic. Can’t wait to read this.

  8. First week of the month always makes me overly excited. Swamp Thing and Animal Man,,,,,,I really like the new design of Swamp Thing and can’t wait to see him destroy the decay.

  9. Yeah fight antler boy fight !

  10. Reading Swamp Thing is like winning the lottery without having to share it with your fellow McDonalds co-workers!

  11. Loved the art, but AM edged this one out storywise for me.

  12. This was definitely my favorite issue of the series so far. The Rot is so horrifying to look at but Snyder writes them so intriguing I must read on. Also, the new Swamp Thing is perfectly designed. Marco Rudy and Yanick Paquette did amazing work in this issue.

    4/5

  13. Holy moly, this was a terrific issue. The art was amazing, so many “panels of the week” in this issue alone. I am loving how this and Animal Man are tieing into each other. Great stuff, I hope Snyder isn’t planning on going anywhere anytime soon.

  14. Loved the creepy Rot-monsters, the organic shield and sword were badass. Another great issue of one of my favorite books. I did pretty much guess the ending, but I still enjoyed the issue, and look forward to more next month.

  15. POTW-I love the internal dialogue Alec has about turning into the Swamp Thing, describing how his vocal cords feel and work now that he was a monster was very cool. Art by Yanick Paquette was again amazing, and the design of Swamp Thing has never been more chilling. Just a fantastic comic 5/5

  16. I know it wasn’t a completely un-telegraphed thing but I totally called the sweet new design in that months thread.

and here’s my prediction for the next step of the book; when the battle is over Alec Holland, the man, is going to step out of the Swamp Thing style armour or something that like. He’ll be able to control his appearance

  17. Might be in the minority but this book was a 4 star only for me. The series is strong, the artwork (last half by Paquette was solid) but nothing really good happened for me in this issue. If it wasn’t for the strength of the overall body of work on this series this book would have been rated lower. The pages where Swamp thing was fighting just didn’t do it for me. The action panels, especially the 2 page spreads felt plain and boring.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Swamp Thing in the new 52. I am a huge Scott Snyder fan. Just saying that this issue was kinda a bummer for me.

  18. Well I gave this issue a 4 and liked the begining of this issue a lot, Scott’s writing for Swampy/Alec’s dialog was really awesome. The descriptions were really graphic in writing and looking out from Swamp Thing’s eyes were really cool. The ending with Abigail really was a let down and I must say what she has become is really a let down; and I mean artisticly it looks simple and I really like her character and hope she is not stuck this way because I think it will probably drag me down.
