  1. Luke’s butt chin is really out of control on the cover

  2. Hopefully this is good because I haven’t had a SW comic in my life since Legacy ended.

  3. I’m looking forward to this one.

  4. Never read an SW comic but I can’t wait to get my hands on this one!

    • Same here. Brian Wood is a great writer and Carlos D’Anda does some great art. Never read a star wars comic, but this seems like a perfect place to start.

    • Same here as well. I’m not a total Brian Wood fanboy but have very much enjoyed some of his work (Northlanders, Conan, DV8) and think he could do something amazing with this property. Looking forward to Wednesday.

    • You should go pick up the Star Wars: Legacy trades, they are mind blowingly good.

    • Holy crap, there are lots of those. My library has them all so I’ll be putting them in my mental queue. What are they comparable to story-wise or style?

    • @Scarlet-Batman: Thanks for the reco! What is the time frame for Legacy? Is it classic trilogy?

    • Star Wars: Legacy takes place 130 years after A New Hope. The series is a bit darker and edgier than the Star Wars trilogy, as it deals with the seedy underbelly of a galaxy that has been thrust into a very dark era. The Sith have once more risen up and have conquered the galaxy but their hold is tenuous and far less secure than in Palpatine’s era. The galaxy stands on a knife’s edge of ruin. The series follows one of Luke’s decedents – Cade Skywalker (who is more akin to (episode 4) Han Solo). Cade grapples with interpersonal problems, wrestles with his personal demons and confronts his destiny as he tries to navigate the war torn galaxy.

    • Sounds awesome. Thanks man!

  5. I’ll bite.

  6. I’m in but that art is already pushing me out

  7. Man, Brian Wood, The Star Wars I know and love and all for 2.99? I’m so in!

  8. The reason I am interested in this is because it’s about the Star Wars characters we know and love. Guys 1000 of years in the past or 1000 years in the future, maybe it’s the Star Wars Universe, but it’s not Star Wars. This is Star Wars. I hope it’s hella fun.

  9. I REALLY hope my LCS has this. I completely forgot when this was out.

  10. As one of the few people on this site who regularly pulls the Star Wars comics, I feel less lonely today.

  11. I’ve heard exactly zero about this title, but the strong pull numbers have me intrigued. Plus, y’know… Star Wars.

  12. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

If you’re on the fence about this one, don’t miss our Don’t Miss podcast. 40 minutes with Brian Wood. He’s got a great handle on this project.

  13. Doesn’t anyone have a idea how long Dark Horse will be able to keep putting out Star War books with Disney owning the franchise?

  14. I’m pretty pumped for this. Don’t regularly read Star Wars comics even though I’m a Star Wars nut, so I’m glad to have this book to get into.

  15. wow. look at all the Star Wars love. makes me feel warm and fuzzy. like Chewie.

  16. Does Dark Horse do digital? How are they? Are they broken down panel to panel like Marvel books?

  17. I used to follow Legacy, Dark Times and Clone Wars before they all jumped the shark for me. I tried the Crimson Empire stuff and liked them and really liked the Haden Blackman penned Darth Vader Lost Command and Ghost Prison series. I tried that recent Darth Maul series, but gave up after issue 1. I hope this is good enough to follow because it’s been a little while since I’ve read a really good Star Wars book.

  18. Like some here i never read a star wars comic so im pretty excited for this especially after reading Brian Woods take on another licence property like Conan and how good thats been

  19. The Don’t Miss episode has made me want to give this a try, I usually avoid that show for this reason. Last thing I need is another book, but it’s original gang Star Wars so I’m going to try it out.

  20. Can’t wait . Been waiting for this since I heard about it a few months ago.

  21. This was great. Wood definitely captured the Star Wars essence and he writes some of the best dialogue in comics. Found myself voicing over the original actors and it fit perfectly!

The art is pretty good, although there is that one shot of Vader where he looks like a UFC fighter. Far too muscular!

Anyway exciting stuff. Look forward to following the adventure.

  22. Anybody else having issues downloading this from the DH app?

    • How about that? A potentially huge day for DH, and their terrible app is choking. I would read more of their output if they’d only go through Comixology, an app which actually works well.

    • The DH app sucks. Tried over and over to buy the book through there, failing every time. Finally had to use my laptop to go to the actual DH digital website and buy the book there. Then force re-start the app and download the book. I hope I don’t have to go through this hassle every month, especially since I plan to pick up DH Presents for a few months as one of my buddies has a story appearing there.

    • I’m 90% digital and with Dark Horse not being a part of Comixology, it’s seriously limited my purchases from them.

  23. Got it! Loved it! almost made POW but spider-man won out!

  24. DOUBLE TURDS! My LCS sold out of this too! The neckbeard who got the last copy was still in the shop when I got there, too.

  25. I love how the Emperor had to mention how many credits the Death Star explosion cost the Empire. It reminded me of the Robot Chicken Emperor.

Good stuff. Wood realy nailed some of the language and rhythms. There were parts that felt a bit wordy, but most of it was tons of fun. When the artwork was good, it was really good. When it wasn’t, it reminded me of the Pizza Hut giveaway comics.

I’m down for more. At least an arc or two.

  26. Guys, can we give it up for one Senator Princess Leia Organa? Shooting the hell out of Imperial Troopers since 1977!

    • Yea, Leia was pretty badass. See how Luke stood up for her? He doesn’t know yet she’s his sister. That’s a little weird.

    • But they just saved the galaxy together. That means their BFF’s! Plus, this is still in that awkward time period where Luke had the hots for Leia, so there’s that emotion added into the mix too.

    • @ FreezerBurn

I didn’t think so. Luke still had the hots for her at the end of New Hope and during a good part of Empire. What better way to make yourself look better to her than your competition, Han Solo, than to boldly stand up for her in front of others. Classy move Luke. Han better bring his A game.

    • God, I hope there are no awkward make-outs in this series…

  27. My store sold out 🙁 I’ll have wait until next week or get it thru darkhorse digital.

  28. This books feels like a comfortable pair of shoes.

  29. I could look at Carlos D’Anda’s Darth Vader all day.

  30. I’m not gonna write a review because I think it would pretty much ape Josh’s pick of the week. But he’s spot on. This is a great way to tackle the time period and this issue was an excellent #1. I’m all aboard!

  31. Loved this book! Question – I’ve never read Dark Horse before – is the free digital something they’re doing just for this series? Are they planning on doing that across the board on their books? I can’t find any mention of it online.

  32. So I pulled this out of the bag, looked at the cover then suddenly found myself humming quite loudly the Opening music to star wars. While reading all of the dialog it was (in my head) all in the voices of the actors. and that moment when Darth Vader said “…..” i let out a hoooperrr LOL

Innerchild is so happy right now.

  33. So glad this was good and I like where I think this series is going to go. For me there really is nothing better than reading stories about the “classic” Star Wars characters, especially Han and Vader.
