  1. I really hope this is good, I love the main character.

Ares #1 by the same writer was not my favorite.

  2. I read the preview at CBR. I loved the writing. I hated the character design for Beast. I have to admit, though, that it has since grown on me, and I am more excited now than I was before being disgusted by Beast. Should be good. Haven’t read Ares, though, so I’m not sure if it’s different than what I read in the preview.

  3. Can’t wait.

  4. I was hoping this would get the Don’t Miss! podcast, it really needs it.

  5. I dig the concept but man that cover is, to dust off an old chestnut, whack!

  6. I was about to say the same thing. Not a good cover.

  7. I have high hopes for this.

  8. Really not looking to pick up another book, but I dunno…maybe.

  9. I’m sorry, I know I shouldnt judge on just previews. It’s not fair but I have to get this off my chest:

    Worst Beast Design Ever!

  10. I love that this is dropping to $2.99 after this issue, like Doctor Voodoo.

  11. If I may offer my counterpoint, this is quickly becoming my favorite Beast design ever, even though I railed on it upon first glance. It really takes the best of the feline and gorilla forms and makes something that both fits his personality as well as serves the purpose of being ugly. Beast shouldn’t look cool, he should look scary, but also strangely cuddly.

I have a feeling that this is the next Captain Britain and MI:13. It will probably be awesome, but last just as long. Le sigh.

@rockingeek: Not only that, but this issue features an extra 8 pages of new material by McKelvie. Totally worth the extra buck.

  12. There are only two words to say as to why I will be picking this up:

    "DEATH’S HEAD"

Remember him?  The Bounty Hunter (Sorry… Freelance Peacekeeping Agent) from Fantistic Four, She-Hulk and the UK Transformers comic.

Well, he’s BACK. And has a role to play in this first arc.

You WILL buy this book… YES?

  13. I’m a huge fan of the writer.  I don’t know much about the characters of late, but I really want Gillem to do well.  I’ve really liked his other stuff (Phonogram is amazing!!!) and feel like it takes a bit to break from indie into mainstrem.  Good luck!

  14. Death’s Head, Death’s Head…yes?

  15. I’m surprised this doesn’t have more pulls!  I have high hopes for it.

  16. So has Beast actually left the X-Men yet?  I remember seeing the solicitation for Uncanny 515 (or at least iFanboy’s page for it, but I’m assuming that’s where it came from) featuring a picture of Beast walking away from the team and promising that an original X-Man was leaving, but recall that it definitely didn’t happen in that issue and I don’t think it ended up happening in subsequent issues.  What’s the deal?

  17. Maybe at the end of next issue scott finds a note in Hanks Room and they say he left the same day magneto got there and this takes place the next day

  18. This was awesome. I’ll be writing a review later tonight. So so good.

  19. Loved the bonus story, it was beautiful. i’m a big Lockheed and Kitty fan. Cool new ongoing.

  20. Fantastic first issue… YES?

  21. Loved the book.  Could do without the Dark Reign Norman tie-in.  The "dualing-commanders" is a bit hackneyed and overdone.  Let’s just get on with the cosmic story-telling.

  22. it was alright. don’t like horse-beast

  23. Wish the artist from the backup story was doing the main story.

  24. This comic was bad.  There’s no nice way to say it.  It was.  This writer is not as good as iFanboy claims, no surprise there.  Just jumbled pacing, bad dialogue.  Bleh.

  25. If an explanation is needed for the bizarre style of art in this book, I think we’ve found it: the penciler is so much of a hipster that he has a handlebar goatee!

(I  for one thought this was great; the art, not so much but it didn’t affect my opinion of the book whatsoever.)

  26. I love the writer, but not sure this style fits with the space Marvel concept.  I WANT to like Lockheed getting drunk in a bar, but I hate it visually.  I WANT to dig on the relationship between Beast and Brand, but I wish there was equal attn on both sides.  Beast looks like an utterly hopeless romantic.

I won’t pick up the next issue…and I hate that.
