  1. Really enjoyed NM #33, will read the issue to see if I might continue.

  2. I missed #33 but I might give this one a shot. I tried the series when DnA came on but wasn’t grabbed. Sounds like it’s more interesting now. I’ve been impressed enough with Regenesis in general that I’m inclined to try all the books for at least an issue.

  3. I just wish that DnA would actually take the time to read the Claremont NM run because it’s evident that they are entirely clueless about who these characters are and the way they are supposed to be.

    • I’m not saying DnA shouldn’t have done that…but I think the number of fans who are aware of “the way they are supposed to be” is *really* small. A lot of these characters have been pretty much dormant (if not dead) for most of the last 20 years.

I got into X-books around the time of the 90s cartoon, so for me the New Mutants were either members of X-Force or characters who very occasionally popped up in a supporting role and made me ask “Who the heck is that?”

So while the classic New Mutants characterizations mean a lot to long-time fans, I think the larger comic book audience doesn’t know — and therefore isn’t concerned — about all that and can tolerate (or even welcome) a fresh take.

    • On their recent iFanboy video interview they say they are big fans of the original New Mutants run so I’m sure they’ve read it. I haven’t so I can’t say one way or the other if the characters are accurate. The characters are obviously in a different place than they were back then. Perhaps DnA’s interpretation of the characters just differs from your expectations?

Anyway, I picked up the issue and enjoyed it. I read the first issue of DnA’s run and was immediately turned off by how overcrowded with characters and entrenched it was in X-Men continuity. Now they have a clearer direction and a good hook to make the team stand out. And it’s focused with a tight cast of 6 so far.

    • Yeah, I really enjoyed this issue. So even if the characterizations aren’t consistent with 25 year old stories, I honestly didn’t care. I also really like the idea that this team is going to try to live like normal people without secret identities. Feels like kind of a fresh angle for a team book.

  4. I’m really liking the fact that they’re living on their own now. This and X-Force are the only X-books I’m reading and it makes things easier when they’re not living on Utopia.

As for the the band. My initial thought is “cheesy/ ’90s”, but I’ll see where it goes next issue.

Also, I like the new neighbor. Does anyone know if that’s a character that’s been around for a while? Doug acted like she was well known.

  5. I may be in the (small) minority of people who read the entire run of X-Man. It wasn’t all roses and unicorns, but for the most part I dug it. So I was excited to see Nate coming back. But who is this Nate Grey? I don’t recognize anything about him, and his characterization seems to start and stop at grumpy. I know – nobody cared about X-Man – but then what’s he doing here?

    • I thought his characterization seemed odd in this issue as well actually. I basically only read his books from Age of Apocalypse through the Onslaught crossover though so I wasn’t sure if is missed a change that warranted his attitude.

For the record, I always enjoyed what I read of Nate Grey and he’s probably 70% of the reason I’m reading this book now, the other 30% being my love of DnA’s cosmic books. So far I haven’t been thrilled with how Nate’s been handled though. I think I’m ready for his powers not to be so neutered anymore.

  6. i always liked Blink since she was in the X-Men and liked her even better in Exiles.Any chance of the Exile characters coming back? My favorite was The Age OF Apocapylse Sabertooth.
