  1. If they kill off Atom Eve again, i’m seriously gonna cry

  2. so excited!!!!

  3. The destruction caused so far in this storyline is pretty shocking, but the fact that it has involved primarily faceless background characters lessens the impact. I’m hoping for a major change in the status-quo this issue.

  4. I think this is where Mark goes full-on Omni-Man. He feels irredeemable after all Dinosaurous has done, and he just goes evil.

  5. I say Mark dies on first page.

  6. No matter what happens, this is gonna be epic.

  7. Read the first 4 pages… set the book down… picked it back up and reread the first 4 pages… then set it back down… waited a half hour then rocked it out… great read

  8. Alright. Confession time. My name is Jon … and I bought the holofoil variant. The regular Ottley cover was in my bin at my LCS. I saw the holofoil on the rack and scoffed the obligatory scoff. And then something happened. The next few minutes were a blur. I have a cold, the weather was unseasonably warm today, I’ve had a shitty day at work. I dunno what came over me. I could literally hear the Rational Responsible Adult arguing with the Manchild of the 90’s in my head.

    “The holofoil? Seriously? You’re joking.”

    “But look how shiny!”

“There are literally hundreds of things you could spend that $6 difference on. Thing like food, gas, cigarettes. Essentials.”

“But it’s bagged and boarded! That means it’s important.”

“You’re saving up for automotive repairs.”

    “But it’s issue 100! That’s a big deal.”

“The single issue market is dead.”

    “But I’m supporting my LCS!”

“The brick and mortar comics store is dead.”

“But a major character dies in this issue.”

    “You’re 30 years old.”

    “But … shiny.”

    “I hate you.”

Next thing I knew I was at the register, actually saying the words “I’m buying the holofoil.” Somewhere, Kirkman is laughing his ass off, and he doesn’t know why. I haven’t even read it yet. I’m worried about the oils in my fingers compromising the integrity of the pages. I just needed to get that off my chest.

  9. …That was something. The first page hit me like a punch in the face, and then.. just wow. Glad I didn’t flip through the issue at the comic shop. I finished this issue feeling pretty good about this series. Nice job, Kirkman. 🙂

  10. For being called “The Death of Everyone”, not a whole lot was at stake during this arc. I was left feeling pretty meh about the whole thing.

    • I feel the same way.

I usually really dig Kirkman’s way of using Invincible as a commentary on superhero comics in general. The hyberbolic tagline on every cover, the witty breaking of the fourth wall throughout the series, the jabs at the industry in general, even the way-too-many variants is kinda tongue in cheek. Hell, I totally fell for the holofoil cover earlier today!

But after all the build-up, this felt disappointing bordering on mean. All the stuff I mentioned above only works if you deliver, and this didn’t deliver. I’m not saying I wanted anyone to die or anything, but I get the feeling that Kirkman was trying to be cute and make a statement about “death” in superhero comics and it fell flat. It was almost more insulting than it was creative.

That said, it did set up a lot of exciting possibilities. My mind is racing with potential. In a way, it got back to basics with a twist. I love this book, but I felt like the brunt of a joke that had gone a little too far after I closed this issue.

    • Got to say I agree. I just finished reading the book right now and my initial response was “That’s it?”

Maybe after I re-read it I’ll feel different, but now I feel like it was a huge disappointment.

    • I liked it because it set up a lot of new fun possibilities. But I wouldn’t call it a milestone issue either.

    • I’ve felt pretty meh about this book for the last 10 issues or so. Not sure I’m going to stay on board.

  11. I was REALLY hoping that Battle Beast was gonna show up in this issue and have it out with Dinosaurus.

  12. Another great issue of Invincible, but maybe a little underwhelming as an anniversary extravaganza. Excited for the future story possibilities, though!

  13. So………………….. Atom Eve is pregnant…. Again?

  14. Just felt like another issue. Not the best 100th issue but it was a good read.
