“Fegredo continues to establish himself as the strongest of Mignola’s collaborators, with a moody style that strongly evokes Mignola’s own yet [is] rife with its own subtle nuances.” – IGN

  1. Last issue was the best issue of this entire ‘epic’ Mignola has been doing for almost two years now. Hellboy fighting a dragon sounds badass.

  2. Dang, no Francavilla cover?

  3. Anyone know where the series is going after this wraps up?  Are we staying in the fantasy/folklore genre or going back to Nazis and Cthulu?  If the former this may be our last dance.

  4. I’m just getting into this whole Hellboy universe (BPRD/Hellboy trades). I’m enjoying the stories so far, but it’s really that art that has me hooked. There really is nothing else like it.

  5. I vaguely recall that Hellboy will be rejoining BPRD. Which genre that ends up putting the stories in, I don’t know, but I would guess more the latter.

  6. @JimBilly4 – Interesting.  Thanks.  I’ve been reading Hellboy since Seed of Destruction but haven’t felt the same about it since Darkness Calls.

  7. Wow. Wow. Can’t wait for #3.

  8. Love hellboy! Mignola always delivers

  9. Art was really amazing. But the story (or lack of one) bothered me. Especially with Alice being the exposition character to make everyone explain everything to her.

    3/5

  10. love hellboy!  this book never disappoints me, it is rock solid.  however, i gotta say, even though i love the art work, i wish mignola would pick up the pencils more often.

  11. This was excellent Hellboy! Very similar in tone and circumstance to Wake the Devil. I’m excited to see how the end of this ties into what’s been going on in BPRD: New World. Starting to see some very direct connections. Honestly though, can’t even imagine how this is going to be wrapped up in just 1 more issue.

  12. For the art alone, this was my pick this week.  The direction given to Duncan (or maybe, the lack of?) is really where this issue shines. I wanted to see a fight in this issue and they most certainly did not disappoint. I loved the sequence towards the end with the witch on the battlefield and how that all unfolded.

And if I could, I would take the time to discuss in a review just how much I love Dave Stewart’s coloring. It truly is the candy my eyes just can’t get enough of. He makes Hellboy so beautiful that I have no desire to want to ever read this in b&w. This is a sign of a great master of his craft.

  13. @RolandofGilead  Agreed.
