  1. I am embarrassed to buy this book. I keep doing it; I love John Byrne. I feel compelled to. But this is Byrne sleepwalking thru art chores. Nothing more. The writing boring and predictable, the coloring is terrible. The whole book is like a beginner made it. Horrid story of a young hero with inane kitschy powers to form a toy line of shapes to help him on his ‘journey.’

And at the $3.99 price point it kills me. I wretch at buying it. Yet, the Byrne slave I am, I keep getting it and hoping it will end before issue 6.

  2. While I don’t dislike it as much as you, I can totally see where you’re coming from.  I’ve been buying everything Byrne does for so long (since I started reading comics in the mid 80’s) that its just something I do now.

FX in no way compares to the sheer brilliance of Byrne’s FF run or any number of things he’s done, but I understand what he’s going for here.  He’s basically become more of a cartoonist than the Neal Adams-ish artist he was back in the day.

I am enjoying the Star Trek stuff he’s been doing – Romulans and Assignment: Earth.
