  1. To me, this has been Marvel’s best book over the past year.  Sure its a little late, and Hitch’s art isn’t quite as Hitch-like as it should be, but its been a consistent 4 or 5 for me every issue

  2. I really hope Ben’s fiance doesn’t die.

  3. @magnum – she doesn’t stand a chance

  4. @magnum: She’s either evil or dead.

  5. @both- I know, I know, just hoping.  That last issue actually made me a little sad.

  6. @Conor-What if she’s evil and dead?!?!

  7. killing off a fiance may be cliche, but goddamn it, it works

  8. I’m hoping Millar will throw everyone for a loop and just go for a regular break-up. Or even a high-concept break-up.

  9. @NealAppeal I could see him doing that.

Looking forward to this. I was never a big FF fan until Waid/Weirengo and there hasn’t been a good FF run since then. Much as I love the Millar/Hitch stuff it’s been very hit or miss issue-to-issue. It bears a re-reading once the run is done.

  10. @Neal  Maybe a meta-breakup?  Maybe she was never really there, but is a reader like us and fell in love with him through the pages.  So much so that he, though fictional, felt it?  That’s my guess.  She’ll end up defeating the Masters of Doom by closing the final issue of the arc before they can win on the last page, but in doing so will break her connection to The Thing.  The Fantastic Four will live on though, because Debbie likes Hickman and Eaglesham.

  11. I dropped the Millar run three issues in.  At iFanboy’s recommendation I picked up Dark Reign Fantastic Four #1 and if this is what Hickman’s run is going to be like, count me in.  I will start getting FF as soon as creative hands change.

  12. Man, I’ve never read any Fantastic Four before the Millar/Hitch run started, and I absolutely love this book

  13. I am jumping on with this issue, good idea?

  14. @sgyseedy – yup, should be a good spot

  15. Hey is this a good jumping-on point?  I love me some Dr. Doom, and I enjoy Hitch’s art, but I’m way out of the FF loop.  I didn’t know, for instance, that Ben had a fiance.

  16. @themanagement Yeah he has a fiance, but that relationship is on the rocks and eventually doomed. Get it? Rocks? Doomed? Thing? Bueller?

  17. @cromulent  I’ve been drinking beer in the sun at a pool all day so i might be wrong, but that was hilarious.

  18. Decent issue, but really wasn’t stellar. It also was a fairly quick read, which doesn’t speak well for the plot. Also, Doom’s master reminds me of something and I can’t place it. Maybe the Mouth of Sauron from LotR? Still not a bad read overall, 4/5.

  19. @Prax-Definitely the Mouth of Sauron!!

I loved this issue.  I literal blurted out "Holy Shit!" when I turned that first page and saw the body.  It was a fun issue.  Great artwork and some interesting moments that have me excited for the rest of this story

  20. who the fuck is Sauron?

  21. @edward The villain from Lord of the Rings? It was filmed literally on your back porch.

  22. Eh, in my opinion as awesome as Hitch’s art is he really is hit-and-miss as far as his splash pages go. It’s like half the time he focuses on the wrong things, things we don’t need splash pages of, or else the perspective’s not very useful or whatever (a spash page of Doom bowing in which Doom fills the page, making HIM look big, when really the focus of our attention should be on the shadowy "Master", who’s supposed to beLITTLE Doom). All and all, it’s been a fun run, though. Anyone who’s enjoying FF for the first time, I can’t recommend the ’80s Byrne run enough.

  23. @prax: dude, please, australia and new zealand are totally different countries. But that makes sense, it’s a weird wizard fella, right?

i have to say it was very cathartic to see a dead Watcher corpse. stupid watchers!

  24. @edward I know, I know. it’s just not everyday I can make Kiwi jokes. :-p Yeah, he’s an evil Wizard. But he has this, envoy I guess you could call it, that wears a helmet and all you can see of his face is a giant rictus grin with sharp teeth. It looks a lot like how Doom’s Master is portrayed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mouth_of_Sauron

And yeah, totally agree with you on the watcher corpse.

  25. that was hilarious

  26. I just don’t buy Doom bowing down to anyone.

  27. I LOVE this Millar/Hitch run. For the first time ever, I’m an FF fan.

  28. got this today  i am from the uk and this issue came with ,don’t eat valeria, dooms master and a reprint of a ff stan lee from beyond this planet earth ff #65. my first ff and it was the best comic i have read i thought ff was to over the top but millar and hitch do an amazing job hear iam hooked and will deffo be picking up the other issues 🙂
