  1. I can’t wait to pick this up. I’ve heard so many great things.
Definitely going to clear my calander at some point this week and give this the read (i think, based on everything I’ve heard) that it deserves.

  2. Amazon has this coming out next week. I don’t normally trade wait, do comicshops get trades earlier than Amazon?

  3. Horrible series. Maudlin, sentimental, poorly written, pretentious. It’s like something adrian mole would have written

  4. good deal for only 20 bucks!

  5. I’ve been waiting for this since issue 1, can’t wait.

@Edward – ‘Pretentious’ is a big word; one that’s thrown around much too easily. I’ll have to judge for myself.

  6. Pretentious is totally apt in this case

  7. In my opinion, as long as people are self aware and don’t take themselves too seriously all the time, that they can poke fun at themselves, then they can get away fine with tacking “big questions” (eg: ACO 😛 ).

However, if it is a humourless (this doesn’t mean “not jokey”), self-serious book, then there’s problems. Art should be nice anyway.

  8. Maybe ‘preachy’ is the word I’m looking for.

Anyway, it’s gonna be next week before I gets it. :/

  9. Loved this series. Gonna hold out for a hardcover if I can and just reread my individual issues.

  10. @DrColossus  Yes, Amazon ususally gets trades a week after comic stores.

This is one of the best series of 2010. It gets my highest recommendation.

  11. Getting it through Amazon but can’t wait, had to resist urge to pick up the last 3 or 4 issues instead of waiting for this

  12. I read the first issue then dropped it. It’s very rare that I’d do that so quickly. Seems like it’s a love/hate kind of book. If I didn’t have so much else to read I might have been tempted to check this out for the rest.

  13. Man, I truly wish that those of you who have yet to read this enjoy it as much as I and so many other folks seem to have.

On a certain level I envy your having the chance to delve into it for the first time, but on the other hand, it’s going to be really wonderful to be able to hold the trade in my hands and be able to revisit this world and its characters for the second time.

  14. It will be interesting to read all at once (especially having read the issues already).  Now I won’t be as shocked & confused at the end of the 2nd & 3rd chapters as I was before.

  15. Hopefully if enough people buy this, it’ll be released in a beautiful Deluxe Edition down the line. I want it in HC, dammit! It’s well deserved.

  16. I collected this one as a monthly, I can honestly say, it was one of the best series of 2010.amazingly well written, it features one of those narrative within a narrative devices, but it didn’t get tired, because the secondary narrative ( the obituaries that the protagonist writes) change every issue. A solid read, and not the least bit pretentious, despite it’s “artsiness”.

  17. Yeah, the book doesn’t need anymore lip service on this site. Read if you want. just keep in mind it might not be the best thing since sliced Watchmen

  18. it may not be better than a little of the old in out in out, eh my droogie?  but it IS the best thing since precooked bacon.  sliced bread or sliced anything else is so passe.

  19. The use of the word Pretentious, is most always Pretentious.

  20. ABSOLUTE? LOL

  21. This completly floored me. Highly recomended
