CHOKER #1

ISSUE ONE: PAIN
Industry superstar BEN TEMPLESMITH teams up with writer BEN McCOOL for this deliciously skewed tale of hardboiled noir. Johnny “Choker” Jackson, once one of Shotgun City’s most promising police officers, is a bitter private detective with a terrible case of Alien Hand Syndrome. But he’s unexpectedly been offered a job back on the force: provided he can nail a twisted drug dealer selling a very exclusive product, that is…

  1. Cant wait to read this book. I’m a big Templesmith fan and I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.

  2. The short story/preview in the CBDF Liberty Comics back in September was great. Templesmith’s art is always fantastic.

  3. I’ve been looking forward to this since the boys did the video interview in San Diego.

  4. Whoa… never seen the artist get billing over the writer.  That’s saying something right there.

  5. So I don’t know a damn thing about these guys, but there’s not much coming out this week.  Guess I’ll give it a try.

  6. I do like Mr. Templesmith from Fell and Wormwood: GC, but I’ve not heard of Mr. McCool. I’ll flick through this in the shop and make my choice.

  7. I like templesmith’s art…A LOT…but i dont tend to like stuff he writes, so i’m kind of excited to read something hes drawing and not writing. Maybe i’ll enjoy it more than Hoxford.

  8. According to Image.com, this is delayed until the 24th

  9. My LCS had it.

  10. eh…not terrible, but seems kinda lame. Seems like i’ve read it before, and the main character just makes me think of any main character from a Templesmith drawn book. Depending on the week issue 2 falls on, i’ll probubly give it another go.

  11. It didn’t ship to the West Coast, so us unlucky saps have to wait another 2 weeks 🙁

  12. if it makes you feel any better, every ish at my LCS looks like it went through a washer and dryer.

  13. my shop (in california) didnt get it either

  14. Most stores didn’t get it. If your store did get it, they probably weren’t supposed to sell it.

This book will show up again on the comics page in two weeks as that’s when te majority of people will be getting it.

  15. The print job on this issue was Horrible! I really wanted to pick it up, but the QC person at the printer fell asleep on the job. It’s a common problem when there’s so much ink on the page for the paper to start buckling, but the printer should have gotten in touch with the publisher, or the publisher should have had someone on hand to a press check. There are fixes to this kind of problem. Worst case, they should have switched to a different quality paper, even if it meant the product was delayed. They really dropped the ball. I won’t buy a product that’s so wrecked. I’ll wait for a 2nd printing or the trade. Too bad.

  16. @Conor – Is that because of the printing or some other issue?

  17. I noticed my copy had wavy pages too. I thought I just had a bad copy but it looks like it is happening to other people as well.

  18. @patio – it’s because of the printing. the proper #1 is out in 2 weeks.

  19. Yeah, I noticed the copies looked like they had been in water and were all wavy.

  20. Bad wavy printing = collector’s issue!!! Hahaha. I’m sure there are some on ebay just because it was released early and printed wrong.

  21. I have always liked Templesmith’s work but wasn’t too interested in this issue. When I heard I wasn’t supposed to get this, I decided to get it. Man, outstanding art and a good hook! I can certainly see how others could say this seems like more of the same, but I really liked this. I can’t decide if this or Ultimate Spider-Man was my favorite of the week, but I am leaning to the gumshoe book.

  22. @comicdork37  This wasnt a cool or interesting printing mistake.  The pages themselves are wavy as if they got wet and dried, not the art itself

I didnt know I wasnt supposed to get it or about the printing error (if thats what this was).  If I had perhaps I would have waited because I, sadly, found the pages and their texture distracting from the art. Pair that with a lackluster story that it feels like I have read before and I probably wont get the second issue.  Maybe I will pick this up in trade if I hear good things.

  23. Choker? I barely know her! Just kidding. This was alright.

  24. I prefer more "definition" in my comics art. This was an okay issue.

  25. This felt a lot like ‘Fell’ to me.  Great book!

  26. I really liked this. It did feel like Fell but that’s a good thing. It was good n dark n grimey. Good stuff XD

  27. I got it (Cali) and it is in great condition
