  1. Vampires and Brits!

  2. What a great cover. I’m going to have to buy this. I’ve been meaning to jump on this series after buying a few back issues in the dollar bin or whatever, but they’re never there. And–look–I’m not going to worry about whether this is "a good jumping on point", because I know it isn’t, and I actually welcome the beautiful confusion that will greet me upon opening this up on Tuesday. Because I remember an X-Men Annual in which this same Dracula character was courting Storm, and it was fantastic.

  3. @flapjaxx

I think the solicit tells you everything you need to know, so there might be less confusion than you think.

  4. Excitement!

  5. I….switched to trades with this.

    *frowns*

Absolutely wonderful book, but I’ve had to be ruthless with my pull list. Forgive me, Cornell.

  6. @OttoBott That sucks. I’m sure it’ll read great in trades. You also don’t have to worry about waiting too long for them since I don’t think this book has ever been late.

  7. Pretty solid issue.  Not as strong as previous ones, but still really good stuff.  I like this arc so far

  8. A very solid installment in a solid story line. I agree with Drake, though, it wasn’t as good as last issue, but while it established the "ground rules" of the rest of the arc, there was enough intrigue left. I’ve never felt a connection to Blade before, but I found myself caring about what happens to him and Jac during this issue. And I love Faiza, Cornell really has great character moments in each issue. I bet that ‘rama interviewer that suggested she was a terrorist is eating his eat now.

  9. @Anson – that’s absolutely true. I’ve got to give Kirk an awful lot of respect just for being a machine about those monthly schedules and/or bringing in a fill-in artist. I think my appreciation for the last issue being on time outweighed my dislike for that particular artist’s style.

Random: Leonard Kirk sells original art wicked cheap. Like $50-$70 a page. That kind of blew my mind, considering just how amazing he is.

  10. While the Wolverine variants on every book have me perplexed (especially when he’s in enough books of his own that could feature these covers) the one for this book is awesome: http://superpouvoir.com/~marv/Marvel/X-Men/March_2009/wolverine-variant-cover-1.jpg

  11. this issue was great.  i think even better than the last one.  i knew what was happening and the story really moved allong.

  12. Was I the only one who was confused as to who the guy in the bat costume was?  I figured out it must be her son, but he wasn’t wearing that get up in #11.  I, honestly, don’t know anything about Spitfire other than what I’ve learned in this series, so I don’t know if her son is someone who I should know.  Does he have an alias?

It’s actually nice not knowing everything about a character.

  13. The only thing I know about Spitfire is from her appearances in the John Byrne- Namor series from the 90s. At that point, she was an old lady, but a blood transfusion from the original Human Torch made her young again. I don’t know where all this jazz with her kid and Dracula happened, though I’d presume before that…

In any case, pretty exciting to see this book with 400 pulls. I only wish the normal readership was buying this as much as the Ifanboy base.

  14. @captbastrd I couldn’t agree more. The Skottie Young variant made me ghasp out loud. I will be trying very hard to purchase that original.

  15. @zattaric: Kenneth Crichton was the latest member of Spitfire’s family to taken on the persona of ‘Baron Blood’. And that’s Baron Blood’s costume.

The most recent bit of continuity, and indeed Kenneth’s last appearance, was in Ben Raab and John Cassaday’s Union Jack mini from a few years back. It has been traded, and it’s actually quite good, too.

  16. Outstanding issue! Best in months! Anyone know more about the Atlantean vampire?

  17. I really enjoyed the issue but I had a question about the stealth team. In the page right before the attack, Blade is talking about vampires needing to be invited into a residence. This rule is established then quickly thrown out the window one page later as the stealth team attacks. Were they able to bypass this because of Lillith’s magics?

This issue might have contained my favorite page of the year. The page with Blade and Cap Britain talking on the plane when Blade says he’ll "Kill everything in my way" and Cap responds with, "Wow. You really are British." Just loved it!

  18. Great stuff as always. Very much a "getting the pieces into place" issue but great nonetheless.

  19. i love vampires
