Hard to believe Marc Andreyko wrote this. It was nothing but fight scenes with bad 80s-movie-style corny one-liners. He’s a better writer than this …
Andreyko could do better — but, that said, this was clearly an issue ordered to contribute to the "Return" one-shot theme. As part of that arc, this was a really good issue. As an "Oracle" and Bruce stand-alone, it was poor.
Although, I loved Andreyko’s shameless admission of Manhunter, who he helped define/create. I miss Kate Spencer. Gail Simone should have her as a full-time BoP.
I agree, Manhunter fits right in with the Birds of Prey, so does Batwoman for that matter. Wonder if that new Oracle-like character, Proxy, will have her own network of operatives at some point in addition to Batgirl.
Did anyone else notice that Batgirl’s costume changes mid-fight? I thought that something looked off about her costume at first because her cowl is drawn wrong for a few pages (more like Batman’s as it goes over the nose). But then, mid-fight, it changes to the correct style. It’s like someone noticed it halfway through but didn’t want to re-draw the mistakes.
