  1. Hopefully they will release a reading guide or something of the like for a proper reading order between this and the other GL books to get through the event

  2. I don’t understand why, just like Final Crisis, they don’t have a proper reading order for this. The stuff in Green Lantern is needed in order to get some of the things in here. Cause the issues just jump erratically in time if they aren’t.

  3. I thought Marvel was going to release big ass Omnibi of Civil War, World War Hulk stuff after their Chronicles reissues, but they never did.

Still hoping on those kind of massive hardcovers that encompass the whole giant story.

  4. For example:

In Green Lantern, we see exactly why all of the Corps join together to fight Nekron. When you read this? They go from ‘We need help!’ to ‘Everyone is here!’ in a matter of two pages. That can’t read well…

  5. I was hoping for a trade the included all the main Blackest Night title and the Green Lantern issues from this time so that story would flow better.

DC can say what they like GL 43 – 52 were essential to understand Blackest Night 0-8 alone would leave you with a fun, but disjointed story.

  6. Buy all three books and follow this list:

    1. Blackest Night #0
    2. Blackest Night #1– Power Levels 0.01% to 0.02%
    3. Green Lantern Corps #39– Kyle & Guy mention attending Tribute Day from BN #1, but also features the events leading to their report toward the end of BN #1. Issue happens side-by-side with BN #1.
    4. Green Lantern #44– Power Levels 0.75% to 1.20%
    5. Blackest Night #2– Power Levels 2.63% to 3.43%
    6. Green Lantern #45– Power Levels 45.43%
    7. Green Lantern Corps #40– Power Levels 45.96% to 46.31%
    8. Blackest Night #3– Power Levels 50.32% to 56.59%
    9. Green Lantern #46– Power Level’s 75.25%
    10. Green Lantern Corps #41– Power Level’s 85.26%
    11. Green Lantern #47– No Power Levels but just seems to fit here.
    12. Blackest Night #4– 100%. Nekron Rises.
    13. Green Lantern Corps #42– Power Levels 100%, and "100% Power Level Exceeded."
    14. Green Lantern #48– Leads directly into the events of BN #5.
    15. Blackest Night #5– "Die!"
    16. Green Lantern Corps #43– Doesn’t appear to matter whether it is pre-"Die!" or post-"Die!" at the moment.
    17. Green Lantern #49– John Stewart brings Xanshi to Earth… which we see followed-up on in BN #6.
    18. Blackest Night #6- Temporary new Lanterns are selected for each Corps.
    19. Green Lantern Corps #44– No marker to indicate placement, but seems to be concurrent with BN #6/after.
    20. Green Lantern #50– Parallax Rebirth. The Spectre is fought.
    21. Green Lantern #51– The Spectre is defeated and Parallax is taken away.
    22. Green Lantern Corps #45– The GLC appears to transport to Earth at the end.
    23. Blackest Night #7– Rise of the White Lantern.
    24. Green Lantern Corps #46– Clearly post-BN #7 with the Anti-Monitor getting free.
    25. Green Lantern #52– Leads direcly into BN #8.
    26. Blackest Night #8

  7. Possible spoilers above. Sorry.

  8. 30 Bucks for part of a story!? seems lame to me.

  9. You could say the same thing for any number of main event books including: Secret Invasion, Siege, Sinestro Corps War, World War Hulk, Civil War.

  10. @Scorpion: Not really.

Cause those events can read fine without reading the tie-ins. Here, Johns made it perfectly clear that each issue of Green Lantern was essential to read in order to get more of the Blackest Night story. Maybe not so much GLC, cause they had their own shit to go through during the event. But seriously, certain issues of GL made certain things clearer for the event, so it doesn’t make sense not to include them in this trade.

  11. @TNC: You can read BLACKEST NIGHT just fine without the tie-ins too. Things might be made clearer in other books, but that doesn’t mean they are indispensible.

  12. I was addressing the 30 bucks for part of a story thing.

It was 30 bucks for Civil War the main book and that technically is only part of the story. Think of the Amazing Spider-Man tie ins. You are only getting part of the story.

I only read Blackest Night 0-8. I got what was going on. I’ll admit there were some holes in the story though.

  13. So is it safe to say that buying just this HC would be enough for following at least the main idea of the story at least, and easily?

  14. I was goin off Jordanlyall saying the story was 26 comicbooks long and the hard cover is only 9 so that is less than half the story and out of reading order.  Why make a reading order then not collect the story in that order?  That is lame for 30 dollars and if you can say that about other collections ScorpionMasada I know you have heard the phrase two wrong do not make a right, right

  15. Any number of wrongs does not make a right but if I could afford this book I would still buy it.

It does sorta tick me off how some books are collected.

  16. I hear you, brother. I don’t particulary like how it is collected either. In the end, it doesn’t matter how it is collected somebody is going to be pissed.

Personally, I’d like to see at least the event title, Green Lantern & Green Lantern Corps all in one huge higher priced book.

But there are some cats who would be pissed cuz they just want to keep collecting the Green Lantern Crops story and have all the trades and don’t want some higher priced monster of a hardcover with two other series they may not want.

  17. Why not just do two, 9 issue collected, hardcovers? DC seems to like to collect a big story in two seperate issues and then collected it in one huge paperback. So why not have two volumes of this? That’s all I’m asking.

  18. If the hardcover isn’t in order I say do not buy it. Companies like DC will only learn if the consumer trains it to. You vote with your dollars people so pass it up if the hardcover isn’t what it actually is supposed to be otherwise you can be damned sure they’ll pull this stunt again.

It happens in my workplace all the time. They’ll genuinely screw over the customer on purpose because it’s cheaper to multitask during the production process but until someone complains it’ll keep happening.

  19. I just read Blackest Night and, although I do intend to read some of the tie-ins, I followed it just fine.

  20. I heard John say in an interview that the main title was designed to be read on its own.

As someone who just following the main title in issues, I understood it, but didnt find it to be an effective story.

Perhaps all the people who were saying it was great were getting an different experience from reading the Green Lantern issues aswell

  21. They did a good job of combining titles in the Sinestro Corps collections

  22. I was going to get this one and the green lantern and green lantern corps. But after reading just the blackest night HC, I don’t think I will. I liked it and everything, the art was great and I really enjoyed the story But I feel that I got all the important stuff in this 8 issues and for 35 bucks a piece I dont need to buy all the ti-ins to understand it. Buying the ti-ins would enrich the story better for sure but right now I am fine with just this HC.     This was a great series and the HC is nice and thick,it looks good on my self. Can’t wait for Next week…SIEGE!

  23. THIS is more like it!!!!!!.

I order my copy months ago and I’ll have it pretty soon.

This one worth every penny.  It’s a great story, it’s THICK and the presentation is lovely.

If this comes out in Absolute format after a few years I’ll have it too!.

  24. In order to get the story right you need to get Blackest Night and Green Lantern: Blackest Night.  Otherwise you will only have half of the story.  All the execution of the saga is contained on the second book.  I don’t know what possesed the DC guy who compilated the story.

If they would compilated the story in chronological order as they did with Sinestro Corps War I would give it a 10 out of 5, but they drop the ball with it.

So, in short, you DO need Green Lantern: Blackest Night in order to fully enjoy and understand some of the events in the main book.
