  1. Hoping this story perks up at the end, it really has been a dud, storytelling wise it’s just been a mess.

  2. If they don’t bring back the original artist I’m done. The story telling has been just okay but the art is what made me love it before, now it is a cheap imitation and falls way short.

    • I though McCarthy was head and shoulders above the Amy Reeder issues. It’s not Williams, but it was a solid effort. I do think the overall story has been a bit wanting though.

  3. I’m sure it’s going to be a great read in one sitting or when it gets collected… But reading month after month, I just don’t care what happens, I already forgot what happened a month ago…

Cool writing experiment, bad idea for monthlies!

    • Yeah, the way they structured this arc prbably sounded like a good idea at the time, unfortunately I don’t think it worked out so well.

I’m sticking around because I like Kate and the rest of the cast, and I want to follow their stories, so I hope Williams and Blackman return to a more traditional narrative format. It’s okay to have a few different threads going storywise, but not so many you forget what’s going on. Even if in the end it all comes together wonderfully, not everyone has enough patience to see it through.

Overall, I think this is a unique title amongst all the Batbooks, and I hope it picks up before too many people jump ship. Kate, Maggie, the were-beasts, and the DEO deserve a large following, but it’s hard to argue with those who are dropping it; when a book that started off with so much promise, is drowning (Pun intended) in overambitious plotting.

    • The title had me as a solid reader in the beginning, because of the cast, the art, and the freshness of it. They are losing me (as well as the story) as each issue goes on. I agree it’s hard to follow along month to month. With 5 story lines a month in less than 32 pages it’s tough to separate. Feels like the characters are getting commercials instead of segments or chapters.

  4. They should make this book more like Prophet, less talking, more weirdness, keep the art consistently good but not trying to ape the other styles.

  5. I’ve liked this story. Granted, the art was not the original and maybe a little too fun, but I still really enjoy this book and the character.

  6. JH Williams III—why the hell aren’t you still doing the art?! This is the last issue for me if some threads don’t start coming together REAL fast and/or if JHW3 isn’t back on art duties next month.

  7. I am officially done with Batwoman. Just terrible. I just hate that it took me so long to really figure it out.

  8. I really wish they had gone the Flash route on this book, follow up the opening arc with shorter 1-2 issue stories, back to back five issue arcs is just nuts for an inexperienced writing team, the fact that this is a multi-perspective non linear story on top of that is just goofy to me.

  9. I have a stack of like six issues of Batwoman I haven’t even looked at yet. Probably better to read them all at once anyway…

  10. My last issue. Finally. I didn’t realize how much I was not enjoying the title’s story until the art changed. I would’ve dropped this book two issues ago but I couldn’t cancel my online order.

  11. I don’t get all the hate. Sure it’s kinda slow, too confusing, with JHW3 on the art it looks worse, but it’s still unique.

And I like McCarthy’s art better than Reeder’s – I was really disappointed in her work.

  12. Still can’t decide if I’m going to pick this one up or just drop the series. The last few issues have left me a bit cold.

  13. I’ve stuck it out this long so I’ll finish this arc next month but after that I’m done. Issue #11 will be my farewell to Batwoman. The First story wasn’t that great and this second arc has been a total mess. should have dropped it after #5 but all the hype for this title made me give it a second life.

  14. This issue was good, I really liked the scenes in the hospital. The mention of Sobek was kinda cool, but what the heck is going on with Croc? I wish thy would just get him back to being something resembling a human being and not Doc Connors Lizard

  15. Is anyone else not getting this on comixology? There seems to be some key titles not coming up for me.

  16. Dropped this. Flipped through this issue in the store – the art looked better, but man still too many flashbacks. Stop trying to outdo Tarantino and just tell a freakin’ story! Maybe when they collect this they’ll put it in chronological order and it will make some sense. Hell, if I can find the issues used at Half-Price, I might do that myself. This mess might actually be readable.

    • I agree this title has been almost incomprehensible lately. Too many time jumps with (mostly) new characters. KISS (keep it simple, stupid)

  17. Three days ago. 46 hours ago. Two weeks ago – a bunch of people lost interest. I’m sticking around a while longer, but I really have no idea what’s going on. I plan on reading this straight through once this arc wraps, but then again… I don’t know if I’ll care to. I like the character, love her costume and the unique place she holds in Gotham, but weird for weird’s sake won’t carry this. Tighten up!

  18. I am confident that this ship will right itself after this arc. JH Williams himself he was trying an experiment with the storytelling. I don’t know if he views it as a success or failure thus far – but its not like he is going to keep telling stories this way. He might try different experiments, and some might be more successful than others.

Story issues aside, Trevor McCarthy has done a bang up job these last couple issues, and would be plenty pleased if he became the regular rotating artist with Williams.

  19. Batwoman #10 was insane! Great character development for Maggie Sawyer, Jacob Kane, and Cameron Chase. Killer Croc’s transformation was awesome, and then the last page… wow! I was right, but I had it totally wrong!

  20. Woo-hoo! Last issue for me! *Sharpening axe for next DC book eying Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Catwoman and Batman*

  21. Yeah, this whole story arc was so confusing. I’m giving this book one more arc with normal storytelling to convince me to stay. One bad arc won’t force me to drop it. But this one was bad. I think I should go through and just read all the separate stories in order, then it would probably make more sense. What happened to the Batwoman we saw back in Detective Comics? I want her back!
