ASTONISHING X-MEN XENOGENESIS #2 (OF 5)

The birth rate is climbing in the small African village of Karere…and these newborns are anything but normal: infants made of steel, infants only partially visible to the eye, infants who combust and destroy city blocks. Hoping to witness the rebirth of the mutant species, the X-Men go to investigate. But what they find may just be something far more sinister and dangerous…and familiar.

  1. I bought the first issue strictly for the art and found i also enjoyed the story as well, a first for an Ellis written x-men book

  2. Some few art…oddities aside, I dug the first issue. Can’t wait to see this one. 🙂

  3. Ew! Booby puke!

  4. I really like most Ellis’ current work (especially his Avatar stuff) but I just couldn’t get through his Astonishing run and dropped it (which I thunk had a LOT to do with the art). I picked this up on a light week and was surprised how much I liked it. Too bad the regular series wasn’t this good.

  5. @ButchCassidy I feel the same way. I’ve loved most of Ellis’s other stuff but his X-men work left me cold. This was a pleasant surprise

  6. Yes, very surprised by this. Can’t wait.

  7. @ButchCassidy, you’re dead on about the art for the Ghost Box run, but Phil Jimenez has been killing it on the current arc.  It’s really good.

  8. ugh, "the current arc" can be referring to two different books.  I know which one he’s talking about, but still.

  9. @crimson80  You speak of Jimenez’s Astonishing in the present tense as if it’s still coming out.  Is it?  I had just given up on it, because it’s been WAY too long. Which is too bad b/c I love Jimenez

  10. #34 should be coming out this month, I think.  http://marvel.com/catalog/?id=13929

  11. and it was supposed to come out in February

  12. Yeah–from what I’ve read, everyone else involved that isn’t heads at Marvel are also confused. I guess they wanted a new arc of it to come out to celebrate their new Astonishing line.

  13. I
enjoyed the first issue but I just want to see the thing finish. I wan a gaurentee well see issue 5. Having said that, I’m looking forward to this more than the rest of the x stuff coming out right now.

  14. I didn’t realize that Astonishing X-men #34 had been delayed so long.  Do you think it will come out this month, or keep getting delayed indefinitely?  I’m new at buying issues of comics 😛

  15. This is my favorite X-book right now.  That is due in a large part to Storm being in it and being written as the strong character that she is.

  16. Yeah, I’m really liking this book too–no where near as weird face stuff as the first issue, and storywise it was what I want in an X-Men comic: just a great sci-fi-esque, high concept story with good characters and plot.

  17. BEAST: "Something very akin to a radiation signature we encountered very recently."

    ME: "Please don’t say…"

    BEAST: "Ghost Box Radiation."

    ME: "Dammit."

(I quit reading becuase of the ghost box crap and was happy to read this and not feel I missed anything… now, here it is again.)

  18. Anyone else thought that the ads have been VERY annoying? I usually don’t care/notice, but somehow, maybe it’s been the many splash pages and the placing, they took me out of the story bad.

  19. This is what I was what I was hoping for when it was announced that Ellis was going going to be writing Astoniishing a few years back.  It feels like Morrison’s New X-Men work.  Thumbs Up!
