  1. I swear, if the gatefold has Finn and Jake I will flip a table.

  2. Even with the tie-in to Justice League, this has been the most consistent series for the relaunch. I enjoy it every single month and we get a double dose of it thanks to FCBD.

  3. Great book, one of my favorites that DC has going on right now

  4. AQUAMAN!!! What the F? :/

  5. This was entertaining. Johns has really made an Aquaman fan out of me. He’s set up a great foundation for future creators to work with. I hope the book can keep it up after he leaves.

  6. Pelletier is doing a great job as the artist on this book. Reis was a VERY tough act to follow, but , in my view, all those people who dropped ‘Aquaman’ following his departure have made a big mistake.

His style is a bit more utilitarian for sure, his artwork is more conventional, rugged and harder edged. Pelletier’s dialogue scenes are less chatty and more directly conversational. His figures lack the grace and poise of Reis’, but his splash pages of the seafloor are genuinely amazing, his action shots are gorgeous and the art flows evenly from page to page, crackling with honest-to-goodness excitement.

If Reis’ Aquaman was a manta ray or a graceful jellyfish, Pelletier’s is a deeper sea creature, a crustacean or a giant squid. Its beautiful, but in a different way. He’s making a fan out of me.

  7. What an awesome issue.

Seriously, Pelletier is KILLING it. I never would have thought he could outdo Reis but there are some wonderful pages in here. The return of Topo, the Ice King, and some great ocean views? Fantastic stuff here. But Johns is also doing a great job with the drama here. A lot of story beats are happening here but he’s doing a great job balancing them and adding new characters who are intriguing to read.

If you would have told me 19 months ago that Aquaman was one of the best titles for DC I would have laughed. But Johns and now Pelletier has made this a blast to read each month. This issue was easily my POTW and I can’t wait for more.

    5/5 (POTW)
