AMERICAN VAMPIRE SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST #1 (OF 5)

From the pages of the red-hot Vertigo series comes a five-issue spinoff miniseries!

It’s World War II in Nazi-occupied Romania as vampire hunters Felicia Book and Cash McCogan (last seen in the critically acclaimed AMERICAN VAMPIRE story “Devil in the Sand”) go behind enemy lines with the secret organization known as the Vassals of the Morningstar in search of a rumored vampire cure. But their haunted, twisted past with Skinner Sweet makes the mission more difficult than they imagined.

Superstar artist Sean Murphy (JOE THE BARBARIAN) joins Scott Snyder to tell a story of horror and history, expanding the American Vampire mythology in a way that changes this story forever.

  1. Ooh Sean Murphy, covers by Cliff Chiang, ooh again.

  2. Excited for this but haven’t loved the main WWII arc so far. Give me more bootlegging and cowboy vampires!

  3. Not a huge American Vampire fan, but wherever Sean Murphy goes I follow.

  4. I love American Vampire and I love Sean Murphy but I may use self-control and wait for the trade to save money…not sure.

  5. Bring it on! I rather this be part of the main series but I will take a mini series

  6. SEAN MURPHY!

  7. double the American Vampire!!! SO GOOD

  8. I hope Murphy sticks to his style and doesnt imitate Rafa’s thicker brushing technique for the sake of the look of the book.

  9. looks good.  can’t wait.  Is Sean Murphy Irish?

  10. Guys – it’s SCOTT (Scot Snyder, the writer:)) – I swear by this comic. I couldn’t be prouder of it – the story, the art. please check it out and let us know what you think! S

  11. Trade waiting.

  12. @ssnyder1835  – I read the Stephen King issues way back and was lukewarm so I dropped the series.  But the buzz its been getting has convinced me to jump back on from the beginning.  I’ll be getting this mini also and am intrigued by what you may have in store for Swamp Thing.

  13. @ssnyder1835  I’ve been enjoying this book from the start.  Thanks.

  14. @ssnyder1835  I’m not sure how you can top the current AV and Detective arcs- looking forward to this. And I’m sure you are not at liberty to say, but I hope this DC reboot thing does not mean the end of Vertigo and AV.

  15. Too excited for words! Keep up the excellent work Mr Snyder.

  16. @ssnyder1835  You got me. I’m in.

  17. I planned on reading the series in HC, but I am tempted to get these issues. Sean Murphy kicked all kinds of ass on Joe the Barbarian. Would not be surprised if this grabs the POTW.

  18. Just finished it. Great stuff. I really like that it feels like a great book while still very much being a comic. I wish more “regular” writers took a shot at comics.

  19. Thanks guys! And please feel free to find me on facebook to ask any questions regarding the series or mini!

  20. @ssnyder1835  Since there is no one better to ask… Can I read this without being caught up on the main series? (I’ve only read the first HC)

  21. Nazis and Vampires oh my!

  22. @Funcrusher  Yes, but it features a character introduced in the Hoover Dam arc (should be trade #2). Still accessible, but definitely worth going back to check out how the characters got to where they are.

  23. This is first issue of this I’ve picked up and it had me from the first page. Not sure why I kept putting it off but really glad @josh made this is potw and showed me what I’m missing.

  24. Can’t tell you how excited we are to be POTW – we’re all very grateful. This one is special to all of us. Thanks again.

  25. My POTW!

  26. Can someone remind me who Felicia Book is?

  27. @ssnyder1835   Off to a good start! The baby creeps me out.

  28. Can’t say enough good things about American Vampire.

  29. amazing book holy shit wow this is best book of week to me
