  1. ugh, why does this have to tie into Batman???

    • So that more than 10,000 people buy it.

    • I’m not sure that it’s a “Tie in” more than it’s detailing the history of Gotham. If the court has existed as long as Gotham then the court can show up in any historical looks at Gotham. Maybe it’s “too soon” but I’m sure they’ll get new readers coming over from Batman so how can being exposed to a great book through the use of the court be a bad thing?

    • All star western is not a great book

Jonah hex was a great book

    • I bought the last issue because it tied into Batman. But I thought it was weak and the art was pretty damn bad. So I don’t know how many Batman readers are going to stick with this.

I like the issues I read of Jonah Hex a lot better, too.

    • Jonah Hex was a great book. All Star Western is a great book.

    • I understand the idea of drawing in new readers by linking this title to a much more popular one, but the main problem will remain that the constraints being forced upon it, hinder this book. The real goal here shouldn’t be trying to draw in Batman completionits, but creating a book of such quality that all comic fans will be willing to give it a try and perhaps stick with it past the tie in issues.

  2. I’ve really enjoyed this and I really dig Moritat’s art. The back-ups have been hit and miss for me, but mostly I’ve enjoyed them and I’m really looking forward to the Bat Lash story getting started.

  3. The Court of Owls tie-in was super clunky. Like: “Shit we forgot to put an owl in this issue!” type of clunky.

But we have Tallulah Black back into the series AND a back up drawn by Lopez? This could have the makings of a POTW issue.

    • Court of Owls has been alluded to in All Star Western from the start and it will be explored further in upcoming issues. I feel bad for the Batman folks who were upset about the issue but it would have made more sense if you were reading from the start. You all should have been reading from the start though, this book has been great the whole way. One of the best in the New 52, very underrated. Wish it was shown more love. shame.

    • @Juh: Oh I know this was set up before last issue. But it was so clunky of an addition to the story it just felt rushed. That and the actual issue of the Owl attack just came out of no where and had little (to no) influence on the actual story.

  4. This is one of four comics I’m still buying out of the New 52.

    They better not cut it.

Excited for this backup as well.

    • 1. Swamp Thing
      2. Batman
      3. Animal Man
      4. All Star Western
      5. Batman & Robin
—————————— those 5 books are great since issue 1. I have high hopes for JL Dark under Lemire and I hope Dial H pans out, been fun so far.

    • Switched to hardcover on Batman.

Swamp Thing just wasn’t what I hoped it would be.

Animal Man wasn’t for me even though I’m a huge horror fan.

Dropped JL Dark pretty quick but was considering checking for Lemire’s run.

Tempted to try Dial H. Maybe pick up issue 1 and 2 this week.

      Never tried Batman & Robin.

  5. This is probably the most fun comic I am reading right now. Seems all the ‘superhero’ line comics are filled with cheesy dialogue and drawn out ‘fights’. Boring! This comic is fun and intelligently written. Probably looking forward to this the most as to what it is going to explore in the next few issues. I love Jonah Hex and I love Gotham City! More people should be picking this up. Bravo Palmiotti, Gray and Moritat…..keep it up!

  6. Don’t like how forced the Owls bullshit is (not even following that stuff in the other books), and Moritat’s been slipping more and more every issue but if Tallulah Black back in action as well as Garcia Lopez on Bat-Lash ain’t worth my 3.99 I don’t know what is!

  7. I need to make some cuts on my pull list for financial reasons, and sadly this is on my bubble. It’s not that I don’t enjoy it (Moritat’s work has been stellar), but it’s one of those books that I constantly forget that I read, so I’m surprised when it pops up on my list. That’s never a good sign. I think opinions on this book are split fairly evenly between the folks that read Jonah Hex before the new 52, and those that did not. I loved Jonah Hex. I like this ok.

  8. Been loving the book but agree that the Court of Owls storyline is shoe horned in on this title. They just introduced their own secret society that wore skull rings and now the owl themed gang comes storming in.

Though I think I speak for everyone when I say that we’ve all been waiting for the Bat Lash backup!

  9. I’m not a fan of the cover for this issue, but I love how she is being defenestrated from Wayne Casino.

  10. Avatar photo tripleneck (@tripleneck) says:

If Jonah Hex hanging out in Gotham is the price for keeping a Jonah Hex book from being cancelled then I’m ok with that. A lot of writers would not have been able to handle it a gracefully as Palmiotti & Gray have done. Let’s face it without the Batman continuity tie-ins the powers that be would not have included Hex as a part of the New 52. I preferred the pre-reboot situation, but I’d rather have it this way than not at all and y’know what? ASW is a hell of a lot of fun to read!

  11. That Bat Lash back-up was awesome! i couldn’t get enough of it.

  12. Great stories, Moritat seemed rushed, not a fan of Garcia-Lopez.
