X-MEN SCHISM Promo Image Pits Cyclops Against… Wolverine

I'm not the biggest X-Men expert in the world, but I feel like I've seen an image similar to this one at least once a year for the past ten years. Aren't the X-Men always turning on each other and doesn't it always end up with Cyclops and Wolverine taking out their Jean Grey issues on each other?

Regardless, I am actually quite interested in this story. I'm currently reading four X-Men titles which may be happening for the first time since the 1990s. And it's Jason Aaron.

X-Men: Schism #1 hits July 13, 2011, and X-Men: Schism #2 hits July 27th.

Comments

  1. Does Cyclops have a healing factor I’m not aware of?  If not, how is this even a contest?

  2. Oh no! These two are fighting again!? How will the X-Men function!?

    Jason Aaron: Architect

  3. cyclops have a power called dumb luck..wolverine can’t touch him.and you you can’t blame jean for this fight..

  4. I miss the good old days when there wasn’t even a question that Scott would hand the little Canadian midget his ass. Remember in Uncanny #175 when Cyclops took on ALL of the X-Men, because he’s just the bad ass.

  5. @TheNextChampion  poor shot at a jab if that’s what you intended.

  6. Uh oh, Wolverine better watch out, or he may only be in half a dozen Marvel titles.  Cyclops might kick him out of Uncanny or Adjectiveless.

  7. What’s the next project Aaron has in mind?

The Fantastic Four loses a member?
Peter Parker has a hard time mixing in his personal life with his superhero life?
Captain America has to question his patriotism? (Oh wait he already did that with Ult. Cap and it was shit.)
Bruce Banner not being able to control the Hulk?

What generic storyline does this architect have up his sleeves?

  8. Next up is a story where someone steals Iron Man’s technology.

  9. How about he does a story where Silver Surfer has to question his place in the universe?

As a bonus back-up he does a Galactus story where he must feed.

  10. Now that you’ve found Havok and Polaris how about finding out where Storm is. You know, the other leader of the X-Men. Sigh.

  11. Scott shoots Wolverine’s head off, Wolverine’s grows back, Wolverine eats Scott.

  12. To be fair, roughly a quarter of the time, Cyclops and Wolverine are pretending to fight as part of some elaborate plan Cyclops has running.

  13. Utopia seems to be hosting a Lazer Floyd gig in that promo.

  14. I guarantee that this has something to do with Jean. Jason Aaron can’t seem to write a story with Wolverine in it without her. Astonishing Wolverine/Spider-Man, the recent Wolverine reboot (we on volume 5 now?) I admit I’m Cyclops biased but thanks to Aaron writing this Wolverine leads the X-Men (better than Wolverine leading the world thanks to Mark Millar!) Rant over

  15. @Selfstyler  Nice.

  16. @TheNextChampion  Chill out

  17. That period is bugging me. As is the umpteenth Logan/Scott fight. We get it.

  18. The Prelude to Schism #1’s wacky art made me skip the whole idea. Maybe I need to reconsider.

  19. There is a lot of talent on that book. I am looking forward to it.

  20. I like wolverine and I like when he and scott squabble.  I guess I’m not cool. oh well.

  21. Seems like that’s Kubert’s go to pose for Wolverine in a fight. Not that I am complaining, mind you. Kubert is Awesome with a capital A!

  22. This is a great piece of art poor professor x he ain’t even in the picture

  23. Maybe he’ll do a Black Panther story on why Wakanda is the toughest country in the Marvel U.

Wait he did that in his Secret Invasion run.

  24. If Jason Aaron is doing this he’s earned at least a shot with me to see what he has in mind. Had he not be involved I don’t know if I’d pick this up.

  25. I’m hoping this changes the status quo of the x-men and we have different teams in different books.  People have been saying it for years.

  26. Ultimate Cap was the first Marvel book by Aaron I picked up and it was awful. The fact that this is yet another tedious re-tread of a Wolvie/Cyclops fight doesn’t inspire hope.

  27. Jason Aaron.  It will be fresh.  Has he ever disappointed?  (Take note that I am a fan of his Punisher.)

  28. I am a X-Men fan who is retarded for the 80’s stuff, and as I recall, at the finale of the Inferno storyline in X-Factor, Walt Simonson drew a page where Cyclops blasted Mr. Sinister’s flesh from his bones. And that isn’t even the full extent of his abilities, which leads me to believe that Wolverine (I actually like that character, and not Cyclops, who’s kind of a douche), if blasted full-on, would be dead instantly in the wake of that kind of power.

At least, that’s how Chris Claremont would write it… and you know what? He’d be right, because he’s CHRIS-FREAKIN-CLAREMONT!!!

Great comments on this one so far… much better than this tired idea is… it was old in the early 80’s fer Christ’s sake.

  29. @TheNextChampion  Aaron’s Ult. Cap wasn’t Cap questioning his patriotism. It was Cap showing unwavering patriotism.

  30. @clintaa  If it’s uncool to be looking forward to this, then mark me down as a lamewad myself.

  31. Along with Rucka’s Punisher, this is my most highly anticipated Marvel book debuting this year. Aaron has a literally flawless record with his Marvel career (especially with Ultimate Captain America, which is one of the best books of the year so far). Aaron’s writing is a great blend of excitement and intrigue, as even when a scene is on the slightly goofy side (The first scene with Bullseye in his PunisherMAX arc comes to mind), it’s NEVER dull and always interesting.

  32. Whoops. I hit the wrong button and accidentally deleted that last comment. My bad. Feel free to repost it.

  33. @ActualButt: That’s what the biggest problem of his Ult. Cap was. He clearly was setting up for Rogers to have a questionable view on America with the premise but on execution he made him a dim-witted patriot.

  34. @TNC see – article, “What’s with the Opinion?”
    Subject: Opinions
Reasoning: Why waste your time being negative? If you don’t like something, why bother those of us who do, just let us enjoy it, or want to enjoy it.

  35. What i mean to say is, to all you negative nancy’s, when this is all over, if it sucks, feel free to “I told you so” all over our faces.  But for now, let us be.  And this applies for everything: stories, writers, artists, new series, old series, whole runs, single arcs, and everything in between.
This is comics, we’ve got 50 yrs of heritage in most of our characters, things get repeated, things get old, and sometimes, things just arent good, i will easily admit that.  But for now, we’re all enjoying ourselves.  And when we arent enjoying ourselves theres nothing wrong with writting bad reviews or sharing your view on the subject.  But I, and i know i speak for at least a few others, am just getting sick of all this rampant negativity.  No one leaves this site any better off after these obsesivly negative posts that are just the incoherent ramblings of someone who feels swindled of their 2.99 because they happened to not enjoy the latest issue of Justice League.
I am not saying that it isnt ok to dislike a book, but there is no reason to wipe your praverbial ass with it, what do you even get out of that?  I’m not not going to read it just because someone so verbally hates it, in fact it makes me want to read it more.  If only to have the chance to be a part of the backlash of people who can smile and nod when you complain to deaf ears.

To sum, a post of “Geoff John’s just isn’t doing it for me anymore, its starting to feel old” will be much better recieved then “Geoff John’s sucks, he can’t write for anything, all of his characters bore me beyond death. Lanterns fighting eachother, “How original” ” No one cares how witty your comment is and few of us want to hear it at all.
If you don’t like something, or THINK you might not like something, don’t buy the book, but why are you even reading comics if your not enjoying them?

sorry for the ironicly self titled rant, but the opinion article really got me thinking today.

  36. @TheNextChampion  No, that was not the premise at all.

If you mistakenly thought that that was the premise, I can understand why you did not like it.
