WonderCon 2011: Jason Aaron on X-MEN: SCHISM with Amazing Art Team

There are all sorts of stories claiming to be the biggest event ever, where everything changes, and nothing is ever the same. It is the bread and butter of the mainstream comic book industry. Yet X-Men: Schism, a 5 issue mini series debuting in July promises just that. What's the difference?

The difference is Jason Aaron writing, and a team of artists including Carlos Pacheco, Frank Cho, Daniel Acuna, Alan Davis, and Adam Kubert.

The solicit promises that Cyclops and Wolverine will make decisions that will forever tear the X-Men apart. But that could be as insignificant as trying to agree on a pizza, which can have real and lasting consequences.

Who cares about all that. Check out the arts.

  1. Jason Aaron!  Whoo Hoo!

I know Greg Land did that pinup of Cyke’s visor cut in two by Wolverine Claws, but I don’t see his named listed with the other artists. Fingers crossed!!!

  2. Jason Aason? Is he Marvel’s newest Architect? 🙂

Art looks really good…..but I don’t want to read this cause I have no interest in the story. How many times has there been a ‘schism’ with the team? How many times has Cyclops and Wolverine argued and/or try and be the leader? Too many times if you ask me.

In somewhat related news, a .1 issue looks good for once with Uncanny X-Men’s next week. Love the premise of it.

@TheNextChampion  X-Force and ASM have also featured great .1 issues. Not an endorsement of the branding, but still good comics.

  4. Between Wolverine and Ultimate Captain America (and the few issues of Ghost Rider I have read),Jason Aaron has been writing some of the best Marvel stories in quite some time. So psyched for this.

  5. Actually, I would go so far as to say the .1 issues have had a remarkable success rate—if your definition of “success” is being a good comic.
As a “starting point” they have mostly failed, but if you are looking for a good one and done comic that is more or less new reader friendly? The .1’s have actually been more awesome than not.

  6. JA is pretty much the only writer I enjoy over there.  Bendis bores me to death and Hickman was fun at first but…

I might check this out in trade a year or so from now.  Same with Rucka on Punisher and Waid on DD.  I refuse to pay $4 an issue for a Marvel Comic when I they are barely worth $3 in my opinion, but I will certainly buy the highly praised trades on Ebay when the best economic opportunity arises itself.

  7. @Paul: I heard it was more of the same exposition filled mess you get in the other .1 issues. Especially for ASM since it has nothing to do with the series but with Venom.

@TheNextChampion  Hearsay is not relevant in this court of law.

  9. One of a few creators that can pull the X-Men from their creative slump of the last few years

  10. who is the blonde woman standing to the right of wolverine?

  11. @ edward.  Can’t say for sure, but it looks like the current uniform  being used by Dazzler

  12. @edward @BizDaddy

Yeah, that’s Dazzler with the yellow starburst around her lower lady bits.

  13. No Prof X!  Is it finally time for his exit.

  14. wasnt there already a storyline called schism? in the late 90’s?

  15. Kitty is holding Lockheed! She’s tangible again!

  16. speaking of Dazzler’s lower lady bits, she is rocking a full-on camel toe in that drawing.

Good on ya, Cho, good on ya

  17. Looks interesting, although Aaron’s been VERY hit or miss at Marvel imo.

I’m excited to see Pacheco doing X-Men again.

  18. Hmmm…I see Graymalkin in there. Nice, he’s almost been completely forgotten about since Young Xmen got canceled.  I also think Rachel Grey is in there, so she might FINALLY be getting back from space. Joy!

  19. Currently the thing at Marvel that’s got me the most excited.
