Wow that is the first piece of Phil Noto art i’ve seen. I’m now REALLY excited for him to take over Uncanny X-Force….however I would be happier if he would take over sooner, Greg Tocchini is hard on my eyes.
Oh man. You’ve got some catchin’ up to do. I almost envy your Noto virgin eyes. Check out his website (www.notoart.com). You’re gonna get an eye boner.
Oh Phil Noto, you make some pretty ladies.
Damn that Phil Noto sketch is incredible. I want him to illustrate an entire feature film that consists entirely of 1960’s era SHIELD and Avengers agents having a Christmas party. I want them to drink Hot Chocolate with peppermint Schnapps and express their views on Vietnam and the Moon Landing while listening to The Shangri-Las. I want this DVD to be waiting for me when I get home this afternoon so I can watch it 15 times this weekend. Can that be the next iFanboy member giveaway prize, please?
Yes! (don’t forget the unexpected mistletoe hookup in the supply room)
I want that to happen every 15 minutes.
Put it on Kickstarter and I’ll put money down! Also can Spidey make a cameo, moping outside because no one invited him?
That’s up to Mr. Noto.
I’m pretty sure it would be up to Marvel.
He should Illustrate the Bendis Oral History of the Avengers book with the photo styleé.
Great works by all. Again, I’m partial to that kick-ass Skeletor. Can we get an adult He-man “Max” title(I’m looking at you Mark Millar) that’s no holds barred? that’d be great
That Skeletor is like the purest distillation of every metal album cover ever and I mean that as a serious compliment.
I agree. I logged in specifically to say that, Jesse1125.
PS: That’s rad, pyynk.
I think I know all the photos that make up that Sean Connery art by Ben Dale.
Top Left: James Bond
Top Right: The real Sean Connery? Daniel from the Man who would be King?
Bottom Left: Dr. Henry Jones Sr. from Indiana Jones
Bottom Right: Zed from Zardoz
Spot on. I’d say the top right is real, present-day Connery; I can’t think of any recent film role where his hairline is that far receded. (Even in Entrapment, he has a little tuft of hair in front.)
I thought bottom right was Ramirez from Highlander…
@Grandturk I noticed it was Zed by the ammo belt slung over his shoulder.
I’m scrolling down thinking “damn, this might be one of the best sketch ups in a long time” and then I get to mr. noto’s work…….fuck me, that guys good
i almost always HATE when comic artists use photoshop blur/soft focus effects, but Noto really pulls it off. Looks like a still from a movie.
I think of him as a comic book photojournalist.
Agreed. As I scrolled down to his piece for a split second I actually thought, “what’s a photograph doing on… oh. Noto. Wow.” And those eyes!
yeah its an interesting long term project he’s on, and really placing the characters in interesting concepts. I just hope he doesn’t take a turn and go all comic book TMZ paparazzi! =)
You can really see the love in Sharon’s eyes. She’s probably thinking, “Gosh is he dreamy” 🙂
The Avengers / X-Men sketch by Hipp had me laughing. Hit me in JUST the right way.
Noto is phenomenal as always, but Ben Dale wins for bringing Zardoz into the weekly sketch-up. Zardoz=best worst movie.
Phil Noto blows me away…..always
Noto is great, but I think the real winner in this week’s sketch-up is the concept of Pet Avengers vs. X-Babies. If Skottie Young draws it I will buy multiple issues. This is a written promise that I will gladly be held accountable to.
AGREE! I want this so much more then the real Avengers Vs X-Men. So energy in Ottley’s Ratfist to. Very nice
Sorry, that’s suppose to be so much energy
I have never bought a book based solely on the art. But I just might have to buy anything and everything Phil Noto does. That is some gorgeous art.
All these Phil Noto comment and nothing for Mr. Ottley. It is a sad day… Oop, I see spaceghost15 made a comment, that makes it a little less sad.
I know! He’s my favorite artist, yet not many seem to care. Especially when there is a Phil Noto piece. I love that Ratfist sketch though.
In the past, any sketch featuring Han Solo or Sean Connery would be a tie for a win with me.
And then Phil Noto happened.
Friggin’ Noto. With your friggin’ skill. Just once could you post a stick figure?! Give someone else a chance!
I am conflicted when it comes to Phil Noto. His work on his sketch blog and his covers are fantastic. But his interiors have left me wanting. I have a handful off issues he has done, X23, a Jonah Hex, and a recent Angel and Faith. The Jonah Hex one is pretty good, but they have felt lacking. But I’ll keep buying one off issue’s of his here and again, looking for the magic of his portraits and sketches.
I think his best interior work is the Batman / Doc Savage one shot he illustrated about a year or two ago. That was really great, a lot of his other interior stuff lacks a bit of crackle.
Hipp’s Hulk has serious man-boobs. Love it
If I were to ever win the lottery, the first thing I would do is commission Noto to do an original piece of work to hang in my new mansion. Brilliant!
Love that Black Bolt. The Akira/Tetsuo just plain creeps me out. Awesome work, guys!
i NEED to find more work by this Christopher Mitten! he reminds me so much of Bill Sienkiewicz! Does anyone know what else he’s done?
Wasteland from Oni.

Thank Josh. I actually have the HC Acopalyptic edition of Wasteland, but i never made the connection until now. I think i may have to pull that book of the shelf and reexamine it now
B.S. is still my all time favorite!
awesome Ryan Ottley, crazy good Phil Noto.
The Sharon Carter picture makes me feel really gooey inside.
Phil Noto, again, WOW!!!
I’ve been slow to get on the Noto bandwagon, but wow, I’m all in.
Wow, two weeks in a row there has been a He-Man piece in each Sketch-Up!
That Noto piece is fantastic in so many ways.
I would also buy that Dan Hipp piece on a t-shirt.
