Top 5: Comic Book Bounty Hunters

5) Lobo

Lobo still rears his ugly head in the DC universe once in a while. He is not nearly as popular as he used to be. Still, he is the most prominent intergalactic bounty hunter over at DC comics. It’s interesting that the popular version of this character was meant to be a spoof of Wolverine. He has thus transcended that. Also, Wikipedia claims that this is Stan Lee’s favorite DC character. That can’t be true Wikipedia.

4) Death’s Head

A character originally intended for a Transformers issue. Marvel got smart and had him appear in another comic in order to keep the license. The robot bounty hunter isn’t a new idea but Death’s Head has a fun design. It’s no surprise that he was popular. Also, what a great name for a character. His name is a possessive and I think that’s cool.

3) The Will

The Will is my favorite new character from this past year. Saga is a fantastic book and I love the all the business involving the bounty hunters, or freelancers as they refer to themselves. The Will also has the best sidekick of anyone else on this list. That cat is awesome.

2) Boba Fett

A character so popular that fans refused to buy his fate at the end of Return of the Jedi. You watch that movie and Boba Fett clearly dies in the Sarlacc Pit. “No, George. No. That guy looks way to cool to go out that way.” said all the people at once. And so Boba Fett returned to live a long and productive life in comics. It should be noted that Boba Fett made this list and Jango Fett didn’t for what I hope is obvious reasoning.

1) Jonah Hex

The best bounty hunter in comics. The best cowboy in comics. The most unpredictable sharpshooter with a scarred face in comics. Jonah Hex is number one. He always gets his man. Always.

Comments

  1. Not bounty hunter. Freelance peacekeeping agent, yes?

Glad to see Death’s Head make the list. He’s one of my favorite underrated characters in comics.

  2. Heath Huston?

  3. Deathstroke?

  4. Oh it’s true. http://youtu.be/IUNUZCu0NWY

  5. a solid top 3. Glad to see Hex take the no.1 spot.

  6. The Main Man should be Numero Uno on this list as these guys are pansies compared to him. The ‘Bo would easily rip any of them a new one.

  7. I know Ifanboy hates him but Deadpool is on my list. The Merc with the mouth.

  8. the Fett is number 1, BABY!

  9. Great to see Death’s Head. I remember his first appearance in the UK Transformers comic, and wasn’t sure what to make of him, he seamed out of place. It was only when he appeared in Dragon’s Claws that I began to like the character. It’s also a sense of pride that he was a Marvel UK character who made a name for himself across the pond.

  10. 3 out of 5 Bounty Hunters prefer capes. I like it.

  11. Fine bounty hunters all. I’d add the Metabaron, but you’ve already got the Will, who is essentially Metabaron lite.

  12. No Dengar?!?!?!

Just kidding. I think my favorite Star Wars universe bounty hunter is Aurra Sing, based mainly on the Outlander story. What a great story that was.

  13. Death’s Head only at number 4!!??!

Some kind of mistake, Yes? 😉

  14. I’ll never get the Boba Fett love. He does nothing in those movies except look ominous and get murdered by a blind man. By accident!

Now Jango? Kicks multiple Jedi’s asses, duel wields blasters, and could only be killed by Samuel L. Jackson. Superior in every way.

Great list, though! Glad the Main Man got his propers.

  15. The Will is cool and all but putting him at 3 is like putting LeBron James in the Hall of Fame after his rookie season.

  16. It’s amazing that The Will is already at #3. It’s also amazing that I completely agree with that placement.

  17. When I saw this I said to myself it be cool if they mentioned the Will, and BAM!!! Cool list, pretty much anybody from Empire Strikes Back could be added, plus always liked that dude from,” Road to Perdition” Harlen Maguire .

  18. I find it funny that 4 out of 5 of the bounty hunters are intergalactic.

  19. Steve McQueen should be on there. He’s fucking Steve McQueen, even if he was never in a comic.

  20. Johnny Alpha of Strontium Dog fame would need to be on here. Still, at least another fine Alan Grant involved joint is included with Lobo.
