The Best of the Week in Panels – 09/09/2010

She doesn't even like the panels. They were my panels!

Billy the Kid's Old Timey Oddities and The Ghastly Fiend of London #1

By Eric Powell, Kyle Hotz, Dan Brown, and Nate Piekos

I feel like, if I have to explain this to you, it's already too late.  Billy the Kid is a jerky moron, and he's in London at the time of the Ripper murders.  He enlists the services of a prositute.  To wit…

— Josh Flanagan

Thor: The Mighty Avenger #4

By Roger Langridge, Chris Samnee, Matthew Wilson, and Rus Wooton

This is one of the many, many panels in this book that could be featured here.  Hogun, Volstaff, Fandrall, and Thor are the tussling ball at the back, and the giant goat is happily eating a bike on the misty streets of London.  This is a problem for Londoners, because traffic is a huge pain there.  I've gotten off track.  I love the simple cartooning here, and the slapstick humor of bumbling gods.  Volstagg is very fat too.  That's always funny.

— Josh Flanagan

Batgirl #14

By Bryan Q. Miller, Lee Garbett, Trevor Scott, Guy Major & Travis Lanham

This photo booth sequence was like a time bomb joke. At first I smiled because I love photo booths and it was a cute and inventive sequence smack dab in the middle of a two page spread of Dracula hunting. And then I looked again and saw how proud Dracula looked in the first photo and I laughed. Apparently, Dracula loves a good photo booth too.

Billy the Kid's Old Timey Oddities and The Ghastly Fiend of London #1

By Eric Powell, Kyle Hotz, Dan Brown, and Nate Piekos

You might want to have that looked at.

— Paul Montgomery

Weird War Tales

By Darwyn Cooke & Dave Stewart

If this panel doesn't make you want to check this book out I don't know what will.

Comments

  1. If it weren’t 8pm here right now, I’d be running to my nearest comic shop to buy Weird War Tales.

  2. Well that Western Tales panel made me spit soda out…

I know it’s panels, but I would nominate the entire sequence with Joker/Damien in Batman & Robin as my favorite this week.

    Differently sane indeed.

  3. Yes! The Armistice Night story made me LOL over and over and over. Hats off Darwyn!

  4. You can photograph a vampire? Don’t know about that…

But Skeletonhitler with grenades is allways fun

  5. @ ifeelpryde

Those Draculas aren’t real vampires. They were pulled out of a movie by SCIENCE.

  6. Goddam hitler zombies with hand grenades! Story of my life!

  7. You should have just put the whole dbl page spread of batgirl#14 up, or atleast made your scan bigger to include dracula on a segway

  8. Okay this is gonna be really nerdy but…..Wouldn’t Dracula not have a reflection?

Maybe it doesn’t work with cameras, but he’s essentially looking at a mirror to take a snapshot right?

  9. @TNC: There is an explanation in the story.

  10. @Crucio @TNC: Or three comments above.

  11. Only an asshole like Hitler would use a font like that.

  12. That’s one Jokerish smile on Batgirl.

  13. Now I’m off for a copy of Weird War Tales

  14. Now, I would have SWORN that Dracula on a segue would have won the honors this week. Made me laugh out loud whilst reading.

  15. these were great, but my favorite panel of the week was the splash page in Amazing Spider-Man with Doctor Octopus making his big reveal. DAMN is he creepy these days!

  16. The last panel made me literally laugh out loud. I think I just found my new wallpaper. 🙂
