The Best of the Week in Panels – 03.30.2011

This isn't a panel. This is a time machine. It goes backwards. Forwards. It takes us to a place we ache to go again.

Proof Endangered #4

by Alex Grecian and Riley Rossmo

Comics are rife with these sort of "let's go be badass" kinds of panels, and it can honestly be overdone. But after what the Proof gang have been through, this bit had the desired cathartic effect. The series has a feeling of winding up, and they've got a reason to want some payback. Plus, if you've ever got the chance, get a helpful chupacabra and a capable sasquatch on your side.

Action Comics #899

By Paul Cornell, Jesus Morino, Brad Anderson, Rob Leigh

I AM RUBBER YOU ARE GLUE! IN SPACE!

–Paul Montgomery

Jack of Fables #50

by Matthew Sturges, Bill Willingham, Tony Akins, Russ Braun, Andrew Pepoy, Bill Reinhold, Todd Klein, and Daniel Vozzo

Exploding cows and nearly offensive wordplay. This is either the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. I can't tell, and in that is beauty. Farewell Jack. You will be missed.

— Josh Flanagan

Captain America #616

By Frank Tieri, Paul Azaceta, Matt Wilson, Joe Caramagna

It wasn't cyanide that put an end to Hitler. It was another brand of tablet entirely.

–Paul Montgomery

Jimmy Olsen #1

By Nick Spencer, RB Silva, Amilcar Pinna, Dym, Rob Lean, Dave McCai, Rob Leigh

I really like non-sequiturs.

–Paul Montgomery

The Walking Dead #83

by Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, and Rus Wooton

This is where shit got real. I had previously thought that shit was real, but it turned out that shit wasn't real. Yet, a hatchet really made shit real. I'll say no more.

Comments

  1. The two-page spread in the Walking Dead was the real panel of the week but obviously you couldn’t choose it to avoid the major spoiler but the one you chose was also a good one.

  2. My favorite panel was in Deadpool Team-Up.

After losing the power cosmic, Deadpool is in a funk so he joins a group who has also had this problem. Called ‘H.O.G. Anynomus’ or ‘HERALDS OF GALACTUS ANYNOMUS’ every single Marvel character who has been a herald of Galactus are drinking coffee and embrancing once another for this powerful addiction.

A great last panel to end a pretty good issue.

  3. I am just thankful I finally caved and jumped to issues of TWD on #79. I don’t think I could handle this waiting for the trade game right now.

James Jr. getting ready for some trick or treating was my other fav panel over in ‘Tec.

  4. Good pun on the Hitler panel, Paul.

  5. This was a week of good panels.

  6. Laughed at the Hitler panel out loud on the train, brilliant.

  7. @RolandofGilead: I agree. Really expected that to be among these.

Still, great stuff here. And excellent quote in the intro, Paul. I almost grabbed my brief case and fled the room crying.

“Good luck at your next meeting.”

  8. The Jimmy Olsen and Proof panels would totally be on my list.

  9. how many people really know about the technobabble in the lex brainiac page?

knowing i cannot stop thinking about what they must be like. I mean a Planck Length Ram is a ridiculous idea.

  10. My Favorite panel this week was the two page spread of Gordon in detective comics with him in the middle of the image and on both sides are memories of James Jr being “slightly off”

  11. GRRRR! I did not get my issue of Proof this week. I’ma go have to bust up some windows at the comic shop and demand satisfaction.

  12. Glad to see the Jimmy Olsen panel there.
